I had received my nursing diploma degree back in my country and the zeal and aim of
progression and development of my career brought me in this country and pushed me to
appear for the Bachelors of nursing course. After being enrolled to this course I understood

Brown, Etherington and Williams (2017), the emergency nursing service is one such aspect
in which nurses require to have ability to communicate within a multidisciplinary team,
should have team work values and should be alert so that critical and emergency care could
be provided to the patients. Team work is one such aspect of personality that I possessed in
me due to which I was able to work in multiple group projects and assignments without any
conflict. Further, due to the extreme environmental and geographical condition,
determination is one aspect which made me consistent in my goals and objectives.
The predefined goals that I had for my five years career development plan dependent
upon my own abilities and scope of improvement so that with achievement of new goals, I
could modify or revise the mistakes or loopholes I had in my already existing abilities.
Further, I also included my weaknesses and corrective actions for such weaknesses in my
career improvement plan objectives or goals. My first goal is to understand the nuances of the
emergency nursing professionals and their job role so that with educational or theoretical
knowledge of their duties, I can understand the practical aspects implementation of which
could make my abilities improved. Further, as per the Nursing and Midwifery Board of
Australia, I need to complete my Master’s degree of education so that I can appear for post
master’s certification training or obtain a doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited or
reputed university. The third goal would be understanding the roles and responsibilities of
nurse practitioner and emergency nursing professionals through clinical experiences.
However, to achieve this goals or to improve my practice, I would require to possess
several aspects and attributes such as communication skills, emotional stability, empathy, and
stability, problem solving abilities and presence of mind for logical reasoning, and finally the
interpersonal skills. These are the aspects which should be possessed by the nursing
professional so that they could understand the importance of communication, information
sharing, emotional stability and ability to work in a team while caring for a patient required

critical and quality care. Hard work and compassion has always been my attributes due to
which I was able to choose this profession as my career and influenced myself to pursue the
depth of this profession in an another country. However, within these above- mentioned
attributes, I possessed empathy, sincerity and emotional stability due to which I was able to
understand the logical reasoning of the situation and helped me to apply abilities with
effective ability (van Mol et al., 2018). Hence, I was able to implement effective intervention
strategies without any emotional complications.
As mentioned by Marques et al. (2018), while working in any healthcare facility, the
nursing professionals are expected to acquire multiple skills related to administration,
informatics, classifying information, people skills, and mental or psychomotor skills so that
any critical and crucial situation could be managed through these skills. These skills require
the nursing professional to implement fine motor skills, develop effective communication
within the facility and with the patient, understand and communicate in multiple languages,
organize and counsel people. Besides these, as per Venkat et al. (2015), for emergency
nursing professionals, it is important that they are able to work for long hours. Hence,
endurance and mental pressure, and ability to tolerate interruptions would be one of the
critical conditions that the nursing professional would go through. Hence, the
abovementioned skills would be the skill set that I would aim to acquire through strategic
planning and SMART goals.
In relation to the goals developed for the achievement of the five years nursing career
plan, I would be requiring multiple training programs so that I could develop abilities for my
role as an emergency nursing professional working in critical healthcare conditions. As per
Bradham, Dalme and Thompson (2016), there are universities that provide multiple degrees
such as the Baccalaureate degree, associate’s degree and diploma so that nursing

Hence, my SMART objective would also include a roadmap so that I could enroll myself for
any of these degrees (van Mol et al., 2018).
The strategic planning would include aspects such as goals, purpose, instructions, and
few exercises or actions that would help me to achieve my short term and long term goals in
these five years. The purpose of this plan would be to navigate me through these years to my
goal and the path would be a straight line as I have already chosen my career goal after my
graduation in nursing.
Confidence is the most important aspect that would help me to go through these years
of achievement, and hard work with success and failure both and hence, I would develop a
table to accomplishment, activities and skills with knowledge so that I could motivate myself
throughout these years. The table would be as follows:
Accomplishment Activities Skills and knowledge
The second exercise that I would follow is developing a napkin of activities and
preferences with my likes and dislikes so that my work related preferences could be
assembled at one place (van Mol et al., 2018). This napkin chart would include the actions I
would like to perform and achieve throughout these years and the actions I would avoid for
my five years career plan (Alzahrani & Kyratsis, 2017). Further, the blank sections would
also include the tangible and intangible benefits both of these preferable and non – preferable
actions would achieve. The napkin chart would be as follows:

while working with patients with LEP or Limited English Proficiency, I could provide them
