Introduction
In the health care sector the role of nurses is very crucial and they are the
undetachable part of the any health care sector irrespective of the specification of the health
care sector. In this regard, it can be stated that the without the presence of the nurses it is not
possible for the doctors or for any health and social care organization to deliver the best
quality care to the patients. The profession of an adult nurse is very noble and overall health
and wellbeing of nurse is completely dependent on the professional nurses.
In this present report the occupation of an adult nurse is described and along with this
the career prospectus, basic requirements, course modules of an adult nurse are also discussed
in a brief manner.
University Entry Requirement
In order to being a professional nurse, a few basic qualifications are required for the
students and basic qualifications are required to take admission in the Canterbury Christ
University. As a part of the qualifications of being a nurse an individual must have good
communication skills, basic command in English language, skills of verbal and non-verbal
communication for communicating with the patients during providing care and it is reported
that a good communication skill of a nurse can improve the patients’ outcome in terms of
better treatment outcome (Canterbury Christ Church University 2020). According to the
study of Tobiano et al. (2015), it is stated that using verbal communication a nurse can know
the viewpoints of the patients. In case of Canterbury Christ University, they specifically look
for the GCSE English Language and Mathematics grades A-C / 4-9 or equivalent and as a
functional Skills Level 2 is accepted. In case of the overseas students, they must attend an
interview in front of the interview board of the University and in this regard, it can be stated

that Skype interview is also accepted. In English is not the first language of the student then
the student must have the IELTS overall score of 7 along with scores of at least 7 in ,
listening, reading and speaking, and a minimum of 6.5 in writing (Canterbury Christ Church

Content of the education on the programme of study
In order to be a professional and skilled adult nurse, one individual will explore the
areas like health promotion, nursing knowledge and skills, evidence-based compassionate
person-centred care, clinical science, cooperative working with a various health and social
care specialists in the hospital care setting in order to provide the best treatment to the
patients. According to the study of Dunlay and Strand (2016), it is stated that the knowledge
regarding the person cantered care will allow them to consider the consent of the patients as a
part of their job and it will enhance the patient satisfaction. On the other hand, working with a
multidisciplinary team will help the patients to have the best treatment possible as multiple
specialists can handle the different types of complications of the patients.
What is the professional body
As a professional nurse, it is the duty of an individual to follow a few principles and
core values during providing care to the patients in a hospital care setting. The main aims and
objectives of the nurses are to serve the society irrespective of race and ethnicity along with
ensuring the fact that all have safe and individual cares. The core principle of nurses are
mainly respect, autonomy, justice for the best interest of the patients, maintain
confidentiality, non-maleficence, beneficence, honesty and shared decision making (Parahoo
2014). According to the study of McCormack and McCance (2016), it is state that the use of
nursing core values and principles are very much important for providing care to the patients

and following those core ethical values and principle will also help the nurses to meet the
individual needs of the patients in care setting as well.
What does the programme of study entail
During the interview session with a student of the college currently pursuing the adult
nursing course in CCCU, the individual student came to know about the detailed scenario of
the course. The interviewee reported that the course runs for three years as it is an
undergraduate course of the nursing and the interviewee is in her final year. Therefore, the
interviewee stated that initially it was a little bit challenging and interesting too. However the
interviewee got help from the seniors and the faculty members of the college to over the
challenges and her main challenge was associated with the fact that the course covers a very
vast area and it is a little tough to overcome in initial days. After the course, the interview
will join as a registered nurse and will serve the society.
Potential career options
During the BSc nursing course in CCCU, the individual will experience placement in
different sectors of health and social care such as in community and acute settings to support
learning and this will help the individual to get the insights of the profession. After successful
completion of the course the nurse will start his/ her career as a registered nurse. Along with
this the individual may also pursue the study for getting the master degree course or Phd
course in adult nursing within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. Moreover the individual
can also work in management, education, clinical practice, armed forces by using the skills.
Moreover, the individual may try to get placements in different countries of the world
(Canterbury Christ Church University 2020).

Conclusion
Hence, it can be concluded that the profession of nursing is one of the noble
professions and without the nurse it is not possible for the health care organization to provide
care. Hence, the choosing the course of adult nursing in CCCU will be a beneficial decision
for an individual as a part of his or her secured future. Within this 3 year course, the exposure
in the clinical care setting will make the individual very skilled and professional and after
completion he or she can start career as registered nurse.
