AI Summary
This case study examines the mental health of Munny, a 45-year-old Cambodian man experiencing significant distress following a negative performance review at work. The analysis addresses two primary risk areas: potential mental trauma and speech impairment, stemming from increased stress and depression. The study explores midwifery and nursing interventions based on the Recovery Model Theory, emphasizing positive aspects like hope, respect, and empowerment, alongside the importance of staff motivation and patient support. Munny's condition is identified as a severe form of depression, affecting his confidence and overall health, potentially leading to trauma. The case study proposes creating a positive, supportive environment involving family members and staff to improve Munny's well-being. Furthermore, the assignment highlights two crucial legal and ethical considerations for nurses and midwives: maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, and ensuring patient safety, particularly in the context of mental health challenges. The case study references the DSM-5 and the Mental Health Act 2014 to support its findings and recommendations.

Two risk areas that are faced by the Munny are that he might go into mental trauma and
speech inability. With the enhancement in the challenges related to mental health. According
to Blueknot foundation, (2019) he might lose his consciousness if such state of his continuous
for the long time. This is illustrated from the case of Munny where there is decrease in the
speaking ability of Munny due to mental stress that he is taking. This stress is also affecting
the health of the individual which can be seen in the case of Munny.

Mid-wifery and Nursing interventions that can be taken to cover the above mentioned risk
areas are implementation of positive aspects such as hope, respect and empowerment which
will contribute to the recovery of the depression on the basis of the Recovery Model Theory
as it helps an individual in their mental health conditions (Briere, 2014). This must be
practiced by all the staffs at the mental hospital. Motivating the patient can also help them in
improving the skills of the individuals on the basis of which they can make a good
relationship with the individual which can again help them in recovering fast.

The mental health condition that Munny is facing can be understood as the extreme form of
depression in which he is losing his confidence. This stress taken by him has reduced the
chances of him getting well and at the same time it has increased the challenges of the nurses
that they can make them well. Mental health concern depression is also a major health
concern for the person as it is degrading his health and other vitals such as weight and other
things such as understanding capacity American Psyciatric Association, (2013) suggests that
it might lead the person into trauma which is not good for his future.
2.b.
In order to deal with depression, he needs to be given a positive environment where there
must be cheerful staffs that can play with him or make him feel motivated. The major reason
of his this kind of state was the fact that his manager was not impressed by his performance
which he felt to be the job that he loved (American Psyciatric Association, 2013). This
lowered Munny’s confidence which can only be improved if all the staff works with each

other for making an environment in which he can speak, laugh and enjoy. In this the use of
family members can also be helpful (Briere, 2014).
3.
Two legal and ethical issues a nurse/midwife needs to consider are:
Patient’s privacy and confidentiality: Mental patients are generally seen as someone
that is not acceptable in the society and regarded as threat to the social behaviour. Due
to this it is critical that Munny’s details needs to be kept secret till the time he gets
well.
Patient’s safety: It is seen that since he is facing mental trauma hence it might be
possible that he or she might face challenges related to safety as he is not in his mind.
Treating the patient according to Mental Health Act can ensure his safety (Health.vic,
2014).
