This case study presents an analysis of an 82-year-old retired teacher, Mr. X, diagnosed with dementia and depression, focusing on his care within an aged care home. It covers his psychological factors, including sadness, agitation, and breathlessness, alongside the pathophysiology of his conditions such as dementia with aphasia and apraxia, Alzheimer's with glutamatergic excitotoxicity, and mild asthma. The study outlines a person-centered nursing management approach involving cognitive, physical, and behavioral activities, alongside pharmacological interventions like Alzheimer's medications (Donepezil, Memantine, Galantamine) and antidepressants (SSRIs). Non-medication approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, physical exercise, and memory enhancement exercises are also discussed. The analysis references research on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and faith community nurse-led counseling for dementia caregivers.
