Executive Summary
The aim of this report is to highlight some of the severe issues faced by Violet with her
health. She has been suffering from Osteoarthritis, Type 2 Diabetes and Leg ulcer. The report
will highlight some of the effective nursing practices and emotional attachments with Violet
to overcome the health conditions. It will also focus some of the effective deliveries of
nursing practices while treating against a patient suffering from type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis
and leg ulcer. Finally, the report concludes with a brief note that medical help is not the only
help that will heal her but emotional attachments are also valuable to get rid of such
conditions

Introduction
The aim of this assignment is to discuss certain qualitative and quantitative questions
as per the given case study. The given case study mainly focus on Violet who is suffering
from type 2 Diabetes, osteoarthritis and a lower leg ulcer. However, has been approved in a
residential aged care home and waiting for a nursing home bed. Recently, she shifted to her
daughter Gemma’s home where she stays with her grandchildren and Gemma’s husband
Mathew. Mathew dose not go to work and spends most of his time drinking alcohol.
Therefore, the report will focus mostly on Violet since she has been suffering from three
disease, it is important for the nursing care unit to take an utmost of her health.
Discussion
Quantitative Research Questions related to the clinical issue
Being in nursing profession, it will be quite difficult to handle a patient suffering a
variety of diseases. Although, the case study does not focus on Violet’s pain and discomfort
but it is quite sure that she is suffering from a lot of pain and discomfort due to her
Osteoarthritis (Glyn-Jones et al. 2015). She is also a victim of Type 2 diabetes which will be
lifelong disease. The foremost important quantitative research question will be; how nurses
will address her care as she was suffering from type 2 diabetes as well as osteoarthritis and
lower leg ulcer? Most often, it is quite difficult for the nurses to address such a patient
because there could be an internal linkage of all the diseases. Nurses will also need to follow
their nursing ethics as in order to address such a scenario (Grace 2017). The above question
will mainly revolve from Nursing point of as how they will deal with such a critical case. It is
not easy for them to face such situations. It will also be important for the nurses to take
decisions as per the patient’s condition (Butts and Rich 2019). There can be severe pain,
however, they have to practice such cases.

Literature Outcome
As per the literature, nursing plays an important role while dealing with such life-
threatening diseases. Violet, who is suffering from Osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, and leg
ulcer. However, nursing skills of proper time management, decision making, critical thinking
will play a crucial role in such situations (Esser et al. 2014). It will also be important to have
an effective communication with a multidisciplinary team in order to tackle any future
outcomes of those conditions. There numerous nursing roles in order to treat such patients,
such as proper counselling regarding bone fitness, importance of calcium in bone
development, importance of Insulin injection while suffering from type 2 diabetes. Moreover,
nurses also need to take care of Violet’s leg ulcer which usually gets healed up within couple
of weeks. However, nurses need to detect whether it is Venous leg ulcers which might be
painful as per Violet’s age (Brouwer et al. 2014). With respect to Violet’s age, he might be
feeling irritable, excessive sweating, tingling or hungriness, these are certain symptoms
which nurses need to address carefully because such situations arise while one is suffering
from type 2 diabetes (Munshi et al. 2016). Leadership and management ae two vital skills
that nurses need to implement while dealing with such situations, because an utmost focus
and concentration ought to be needed while treating her. One of the important task as per
nursing point of view is to keep a check on his blood glucose level and blood pressure. Most
often, disturbances in these two parameters give early signals of upcoming situations.
Discussion from the literature
Form the above literature, it can be clearly stated that along with the nurses her family
members including her daughter and her daughter’s husband need to support her emotionally
and morally so that he could get rid of her discomfort and pain (Campbell and Daley 2017).
However, it is not easy for Violet to get a rapid recovery, although it will take time. Most
importantly, medications will be lifelong depending upon her improvement in health. Nurses

need to be extra careful while treating against leg ulcers, because if the wound does not get
healed up, it might spread some infections all over the leg and that might affect the pain of
osteoarthritis (Primdahl et al. 2014). Moreover, nurses need to be quite interactive with a
group of multidisciplinary team who will address all form of diseases that Violet is suffering.
A general practitioner who will address Diabetes and leg ulcer, plus an orthopedic doctor
who will deal with Violet’s Osteoarthritis. One of the vital role that nurses will need to
overcome is to help Violet to practice some form of Physical exercises, because that will help
Violet to be active and get rid of anxiety and depression that she might face in future because
of her condition (Ndosi et al. 2014). The interaction among numerous health circumstances
necessitates a synchronized tactic to augment the fitness and wellness of Violet. The
overhead discussion have emphasized roughly of the nursing characters in the medical field
of osteoarthritis; however, the openings for novel modernizations are boundless.
Qualitative Research Questions related to the clinical issue
From Violet’s point of view, it is necessary for her family members to take care of
her, in order to maintain an emotional attachment and cope up the situations of depression
and anxiety. As, her daughter’s husband does not go to work and the burden of the entire
family comes upon her daughter Gemma, who has been taking the entire responsibility of her
family. It is quite obvious that Violet’s health condition and her family surroundings might
lead her to some form of depression and anxiety that can deliver a negative influence on her
overall health. The main qualitative research question that will focus; how her family can
deliver a moral and emotional support to overcome her health conditions? This is one the
most important point to be discussed as in several cases emotional attachment can help to
overcome the diseases.

Ae per the literature, emotions and pain are closely linked with each other. Certain
times, an emotional happiness can get rid of some chronic disease. The situation will be quite
same for the case of Violet, her daughter’s husband need to support his by doing a job and
must stop alcohol to be safe in future (Stuckey et al. 2014). Supporting Violet emotionally
and taking an utmost care of her along with the nurses can make her feel much better. There
are stages her family can yield to recover your expressive happiness. To stay connected with
her doctor in order to get a regular update of her improvement and to contract her conditions
below the control unit and diminish medicine cross effects will be an imperative primary
footstep. Afterwards, they can take a step to preserve undesirable emotions to stay away
through corporal and demonstrative self-care (Hagger et al. 2016). Some self-care that her
family member can implement on her include mind and body practices, music therapy, art
therapy, physical exercise, a healthy diet, acupressure, and activity patrolling. Also, to get
complicated in communal happenings to avoid moods of separation and discover openings
for amusement and production. Her family should also be extra careful in order to maintain
the blood glucose level, and apply necessary dosage of insulin and medications (Houston‐
Barrett and Wilson 2014). Her family must keep a close eye to track her activities because
sometimes emotional unhappiness could influence her daily activities.

Diabetes and osteoarthritis is a long-lasting metabolic syndrome that influences
bodily, social and psychological including emotional well-being of Violet alive with it.
Furthermore, psychosocial difficulties that are utmost mutual in diabetes and osteoarthritis
patients frequently effect in thoughtful undesirable influence on patient's happiness and
communal life, if left untreated (Östlund et al. 2014). Having a close connection with such
psychosocial characteristics counting reasoning, demonstrative, behavioural and societal

issues in the conduct involvements would assist to overawed the emotional barricades, related
with obedience and self-care for diabetes; the concluding existence is the eventual goal of
organization of Violet with osteoarthritis, leg ulcer and diabetes (Vadacca et al. 2014). While
plenty all of it on self-management and spiritual interferences for diabetes is obtainable, there
is imperfect evidence on the influence of emotional rejoinder and unmanaged emotional
sufferings on complete fitness. These feelings do not attitude unaccompanied. Violet’s

From the above report it can be conclude that nurses and her family members need to
be extra careful while dealing with the situations. There will be certain occasions when she
might suffer extreme pain or mood swings but that will be the ultimate goal of her family to
deal with and keep her happy with an emotional attachment.
