Nursing Interview with a Client
Introduction
With the rapid growth in lifestyle diseases, there is a need to define nursing and its roles
in the rehabilitation of drug abuse. Apart from the provision of optimal care, nurses also have the
responsibility to guide and counsel drug addicts to live a drug-free life. According to Stanhope &
Lancaster, nurses should guide and counsel clients to solve their problem of on reliance on drugs
(2013). As a nurse in a free clinic, I undertook an interview with a 21-year-old woman who was
not feeling well in weeks and had no energy. Thus, this essay analyzes the client interview and
other insights in nursing about recovery from drug addiction.
From the client information, I was able to gather crucial data about her and the streets she
resides. I was able to understand that street drugs are common even at a tender age. More so,
these streets drugs are usually shared among the addicts. Besides, the clients have drugs
symptoms such that she can’t do without them. As a result, the patient would undergo through
trash to get items to sell to buy cigarettes, food, and snacks. For this reason, as a caring nurse, I
find it essential to aid the client to quit the streets drugs and help her to make life better.
The interview was like a puzzle hence the need to ask myself questions while
interviewing the client. The first question I asked myself was how I could help the client to quit
smoking cigarettes and to use street drugs. The client admitted that her life was in a mess and
told me that she did not know how to make her life better. The next question I asked myself was
what moral values the client could find vital in her life. As a result, I was able to understand why
such a young woman could be so much in drugs. Thus these questions boosted my confidence
enough while interviewing the client.

During planning, I can assist the client in various ways. According to Watson, Preedy, &
Zibadi, company and peer pressure encourage high usage of drugs among people (2012). For this
reason, I can assist the client by helping her to develop more healthy relationships and new
friends to avoid influence on addiction relapse. Therefore, sometimes people close to you may
contribute to drug relapse.
Primarily there are potential strategies that would assist the client in a better life.
Recreation activities and exercise are the major possible strategies to reduce stress which triggers
drug relapse (Lewis, Dana, & Blevins, 2014). Moreover, exercise helps to reduce boredom which
also triggers drug relapse. Being physically active also aids in restoring a sense of balance and
the client's benefits emotionally. Hence, recreation and exercise are vital activities in a client’s
life.
In conclusion, the interview analyzes the client recovery process from drug addiction.
From the client information, it clear that street drugs are commonly shared among the addicts.
The clients have been addicted such that they can’t do without them that why they undergo
through trash to sell things to purchase cigarettes. My assistance in encouraging clients to have
healthy relationships avoids drugs relapse. More so, the application of exercise and recreation
activities reduces the stress that may trigger drug relapse.
