Brief Summary of the Article
The chosen article discusses about the ‘Impact of Trait of Personality on the
Leadership Styles and Conflict Management’ (Rani, 2018). In this article, the types of
different leadership styles are discussed and how each style deals with the conflicts in any
given situation and manages them effectively. The personality traits of a person highly
influences on how he or she will manage a conflict. The transformational and transactional
type of leadership generally incorporates the collaborative style of conflict management to
resolve disputes easily. However, the autocratic leadership follows avoiding style and
generally neglects the conflicts. Thus, the types of leadership and the conflict management
style it incorporates are discussed in the research paper.
Conflict Management as a Nurse Leader
In my future nursing practise, I will generally follow the transformational style of
leadership such that I can motivate my subordinates and influence them to deal the patients
with warmth and care. Conflicts in nursing may arise between the assigned nurses and the
patient parties regarding any medical situation (Shah, 2017). In this scenario, as a nurse
leader I will detect the issue, talk separately with both the parties individually, and thereafter
be the mediator to call them together to explain the scenario in details. Thus, I will
incorporate the collaborative conflict management style to deal with the people and the
conflicts between them.
Conflict can also arise between the nurse and the patient itself. If any child patient
tries to avoid any medication, as a nurse leader I should convince him about the necessity of
that particular medication and insist him to go through the process. I will also influence the
assigned nurse to deal the patient strictly, in case the patient does not abide by the
instructions of the doctor. In this scenario, I will have to incorporate the avoiding conflict

management style, discard the patient’s request of not going through the medication process,
and apparently overlook the scenario.
