Evidence based practice (EBP) is defined as translational research as by engaging in the
process of identifying the best international evidence in response to the clinical question, it plays
a role in translating knowledge into action. Translational research can be defined as a process
that helps in the adoption of research work in real world settings and EBP provides the approach
to practically apply the evidences (Pearson, Jordan & Munn, 2012). There are various
frameworks that support translational research. One of the frameworks that support translational
research includes the Translational Science Benefits Model. The main advantage of this
framework is that it can help to measure the broader impacts of research such as cost savings and
improvement in lives of people. The model focuses on four benefit domains with indicators to
understand the value of any research work for adaption in the real world. The four model
domains include clinical and medical benefits, community and public health benefits, economic
benefits and policy and legislative benefits (Luke et al., 2018).
One of the population health issues that are a major concern is the prevalence of
depression in military veterans. The risk of depression is high as they experience trauma and life
threatening events. They also struggle to cope with depressive symptoms because of failure in
readjusting to life out of the military (Goldstein et al., 2017). As depression in military is a major
issue which can lead to suicide in military veterans, translational research can be done in this
area to identify the best interventions that can improve mental health of military veterans. The
Translational Science Benefits Model can be used to evaluate the research done on the
intervention and evaluate the benefit in terms of benefits in the four domains.
