Options in the US job market
The options that are available for undergraduate nurses in the US job market is that
there presently there is a shortage of nurses in the country. Therefore the demand for the
nurses is expected to increase by approximately 19%. This is so because about 2-3 million
people are going to be added to the population of the baby boomers (National Academies of
Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine., 2016). Moreover according to a report about 190,000
RN’s will be retiring which is going to lead to increase demands for nurses. Further these
vacancies are applicable for all professions of nursing and not just the hospital nurses of acute
care. Therefore the US job market for nursing is highly competitive. Moreover the cost of
training the graduates in hospitals is also high. More than 70% jobs in the US market is
obtained through networking and therefore it is necessary for the undergraduates to start
building their networks. The clinical that is provided by the degree for nursing program can
help the nurse in building better relationship with the preceptor and be able to get an
opportunity for job. The bachelor’s degree is a minimum requirement for nurses in getting a
job in the US market.
Review of the IOM future of nursing
The IOM future of nursing reports main aims is to provide prescriptions to nurses for
facilitating the shift of the nation from services that are based in hospitals to services that are
focused on systems that is focused on the wellness of the community as a whole (Grossman
& Valiga, 2016). Therefore this reports explores the responsibilities, roles and education of
the nurse for the purpose of meeting the changing health care demands that is created through
different reforms of health care and technological advancements in the health systems of

America. Moreover the report focuses on nursing leadership, advanced nursing practise and
the need for inter-professional communication in nursing.
Professional certification and reasons for obtaining the same
It is necessary for the Undergraduates to obtain a BSN certificate or a certificate for
the baccalaureate degrees. Therefore I want to obtain the BSN certificate. Moreover the
undergraduates nurses are also required to develop their leadership potential, they are
required to carry out pharmacology related to advanced practice nursing, and the nurses also
needs to have good inter-professional team communication according to the IOM future of
nursing (Palatnik, 2016). Therefore I will do programs that can help me in improving my
leadership potential, a course for pharmacology that is related to advanced practise of nursing
and I will also undertake a course by which I can improve my inter-professional team
communications. Moreover I need a BSN certificate because the scope for acute community
care is continually improving as compared to the acute hospital care that is also evident from
IOM future of nursing program. Moreover I need to undertake a program for developing my
leadership potential such that I can lead change and improve health. Therefore nurses are
required to become complete partners with other professionals according to the IOM report.
Moreover the advanced nursing practice needs to be done for the purpose of understanding a
wide range of medical conditions.
Timeline for accomplishing the goals
The professional certification that are expected to be achieved by me, are advanced
practice nurse pharmacology, development of leadership potential and nurse and inter-
professional team communication courses belonging to HCAHPS series (Cunha Sade et al.,

nursing, I am expected to achieve the certificate for the course named as development of your
leadership potential within 1 month. Along with that the successful completion of the courses
such as advanced practice nurse pharmacology along with the nurse and inter-professional
team communication (HCAHPS series) is expected to take 6 months period of time. Other
than this, I would like to pursue BSN as my advanced degree. With a close look at the
duration of the BSN program, it is understandable that it will take a time period of one year
for me to complete.
Increasing competitiveness through higher level of education in the current
job market and future of nursing
Since the publication of the report of IOM Future of nursing, it is quite evident that
the role of leadership in nursing has been understood, moreover the importance of
development inter-professional communication skills has been understood and the necessity
for obtaining advanced care in nursing pharmacology has also been understood (Zahroti,
2018). Therefore by undertaking these course, I will be able to lead change and improve the
health of my patients in a better way, I will be able to develop better knowledge about
different medical conditions and I will also be able to communicate effectively with the
patients family and also try to improve my patients experience. Therefore these courses will
help me in gaining a competitive advantage over others.

competency and knowledge and also the standards of practice and code of
ethics
With a precise consideration towards the continuing nursing education,
(Nursing.rutgers.edu., 2020) claim that the education services play a crucial role in

developing compassion, respect for inherent dignity, development of commitment towards
the patients, promotes and protect the rights health and safety of the patients develops
accountability and responsibility among the nurses during their nursing practices. As a result
it is understandable that the education services are shaping the nurses in a perfect manner for
practising the implementation of the provisions for code of ethics for nurses of American
nurses association.
Importance of continuous nursing education
The standards and best practices of nursing are changing continuously. Moreover with
the advancement of technology and more evidence of changing health care requirements, the
nurses can help in improving the quality of life of their patients. Moreover through
continuous education in nursing they can upgrade themselves with latest information
available and it can help in improving the patient’s outcomes. Moreover the standards are
continual changing and therefore nurses are not following the same standard they used to
follow 20 years ago or even in a period of less than 5 years. Therefore it is necessary for
nurses to make efforts for staying informed about impending changes taking place in the
medical industry. Moreover by obtaining different certificates and program that ensure
continuous education of nurses helps them in earning higher salaries and therefore improving
their lifestyles.
