INTRODUCTION
Q1 What are the implications for the patient, Susan, and her husband regarding symptom
management and access to care given their relative isolation and diminished access to
health care?
As Susan is overweight and she is suffering from the Type 2 diabetes, she would
be facing various associated symptoms like fatigue, no weight loss and lack of proper
motivation. She is taking oral medication from 6 months after being diagnosed for diabetes.
Also, she has denied the severe symptoms like polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, blurred vision
and vaginal infection. During health assessment, registered nurse finds out that during afternoon,
Susan's energy level went down and she feels tearful (Halter, 2017). She stated that she was
diagnosed with depression. She also told that she is not taking her anti-depressants, which were
prescribed to her. She has gained enormous weight and when she tried to cut down the food
intake, she had symptoms of shakiness, diaphoresis and increased hunger. She is also fearful to
get hypoglycaemia and often eats a lot.
This all occurred as she and her husband were unknown to various implications of the
symptoms and this led to the poor management of her diabetes. Susan and her husband were less
knowledgeable to understand various symptoms of diabetes and will look after effective handling
of various measures that would have led to effective rise in health conditions of patient. She and
her husband would have taken an effective precaution to prevent any sort of further deterioration
of her health condition. This would have saved her life and she would have been in effective

depression and avoiding intake of antidepressant has added further in ruining of the health
condition of Susan. Her husband, being unknown to different implications of various symptoms
that are been taken into proper consideration to tackle diabetes also led to ruining of her health
