Essay
1. Response to Mr. Newcomb’s request.
Being a nurse it is my responsibility to evaluate and focus on the requests made by the
patients and ensure the higher satisfactions out of the medical care. It is very important to
examine that the request made do not lay any effect over the health of the patient and ensure the
safety over the same. I would respond in a positive manner and agree to make the arrangement
for the meeting with the mistress as these is no harm to the health of Mr. Newcomb in carrying
out the act. Fulfilling the request would even make him feel better and happy even in this critical
situation which would also help me to fulfill my responsibility. I would ensure that the meeting
would be arranged under proper care and surveillance so that there is no threat over the health of
Mr. Newcomb also (Neighbour, 2017).
2. Application of the principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, and justice to
the scenario
The ethical considerations of medical include specific principles such as the beneficence,
non-maleficence, autonomy, and justice which help the medical concerns to evaluate the
situation and make decision. In the present scenario, I had analyzed the request of patient based
on these four principles and made decision to make required arrangements for the meeting with
mistress. The principle of autonomy mainly refers to the right of the patient to retain the control
over its health or body. The care person could advice or suggest but could not make any action to
force the decision of the patients. Beneficence states that the nurses must do everything which
could benefit the patient and make them satisfied (Le Couteur and et al, 2017). The principle of
non maleficence specifies to do no harm to the patient and make proper decision in consent to
their health. Justice states that there should be fairness in all the medical decision of the care

providers. Thus, I have focused all the principles in making decision over the request and had
followed the ethical consideration as well.
3. Personal beliefs and values influencing the response to the scenario.
Being a nursing staff, there are various beliefs and values which helps me conduct my
duties and responsibilities in an effective manner. My personal values and beliefs had influenced
my decision or response over the situation in given scenario as I have been for longer period with
Mr. Newcomb which made me more emotionally close with him. I personally believe that his
request must be fulfilled and must be given with specific requirements so that to provide him
with some more care and happiness. As per the ethical values and considerations it is also stated
that the patient must be given with emotional care also and thus it influenced me to agree with
the request made (Kaya and et al, 2017).
4. Describe three strategies to promote self-care
Self care is also an essential part in the medical terms as it is important to motivate the
patients to take care of them as well. The care providers could initiate with the strategies such as
communicating the needs and issues to the patients clearly, providing with suitable information
to manage the self care needs and develop a friendly relation among patients and care providers
so that to promote self care among the patients effectively (Conway and et al, 2017).
