Brief biography
I am a student pursuing a graduate diploma in a nurse. I have studied bachelors in nursing and
have one year experience as a staff nurse. I have learned how to manage patients in a critical
situation. I have carried out duties in significant areas such as the intensive care unit,
operation theatres and highly dependent unit. I have learned that providing adequate care to
the patients is considered to be a challenging task. I have also worked with doctors and other
health professionals which assisted me to gain knowledge of different medication process. I
have prepared myself to work for long hours as per the need of the situation. I have also
worked in a team which allowed me to learn how a teamwork. My responsibilities was to
observe and record patient's behaviour, coordinate with healthcare professionals, provide
psychological and emotional support to the patients, maintaining reports of the patient,
carrying out required medications and treatments, checking the stocks, maintaining hygiene,
providing instant care, preparing rooms, resolving problems of family and suggesting
appropriate drugs.
I have acquired problem-solving skills and learned to be confident in every situation. I am
honest and possess a positive attitude which is considered to be very much important to be a
successful person. I have been able to work on my communication skill which is considered
to be very much important while carrying work processes. I have also participated in the
decision-making process which enhanced my knowledge and skills. I was responsible to take
care of the patients which consisted of developmental, spiritual, cultural and psychosocial
needs of the individual. I believe in hard work and a strong presence of mind is considered to
be important for achieving the goals and objectives.
I want to become a clinical nurse educator in future. I want to train and educate future nurses
who will carry out their roles and responsibilities in an appropriate manner. I have to acquire
in-depth knowledge about the nursing theories which will enable me to explain concepts in an
appropriate manner. I am very much passionate about my goals and excited to share

Education plays a significant role in life because it has not only supported my career but also

Philosophy of nursing
Nursing can be considered as a discipline of skills which can be achieved by education and
the experience which we are gaining in our life. My nursing is getting refined continuously
with the sum of these parts. The experience which I am getting outside of nursing is helping
me to enhance my personal knowledge. The philosophy of my nursing can be divided by
holistic, empathic and culturally which helping me in caring for my patient and their relatives
as well (Adams, 2014). As per my perspective, we should think as a teacher, manager, patient
advocate and the leader. My motive is to deliver the highest quality of care to the patient in
order to achieve a good result in terms of the patient's health. I always try to achieve from my
nursing is the understanding of all emotions, scientific and physical level of humans. There
should be a personal commitment to learning through lifelong, from formal education as well
as from the hands-on experience to make yourself better and your knowledge of nursing
(Feller, 2017).
My personal view on the philosophy of nursing is the discipline and it can be categorized into
four meta-paradigms concepts: environment, person, health and nursing. The most important
thing that I believe about the profession of nursing is about people. Care helps the patient in
getting fully involved. The patient should be treated in isolation from the whole, not just with
one single illness. All side of a patient's life should be considered under our holistic
perspective and should be facilitated with the best quality of life. When nursing is a centre for
human beings, the nurses must think about the environment where he/she living (Inscol,
2015). This is the most important thing as it can influence the patients because these people

are involved with different communities with different characteristics and with different
features. And it is not possible to keep patients separate from their environment because they
are all associated. I believe that human health is dynamic as it can change at any point in time
from wellness to illness and it may vary from one to another, this can be considered as
environmental factors. Life is more about the quantity of health. I had been working as a staff
nurse before pursuing in graduation and I experienced numerous numbers of patients that
have suffered from disturbing experience in their life or have been constantly recurring from
health and mental conditions (Management Association, 2018). What I have experienced that
nursing is an involvement with the patient, whether it is an individual or community; it is
more about being engaged at the moment. In nursing every day is different from the other,
each day we experience a different situation which needs our potential to justify the meaning
of a patient's condition, like getting attached to those things that can be touched, observed,
heard, felt, smelled and even imagined while dealing with the patient. In order to get
engaged in significant bonding with the patient needs the involvement of nurses actively.
Mission statement
My mission statement is to become a qualified and efficient clinical nurse educator in order
to support future nurses. I would like to design, evaluate, revise and implement education
programs for the nurses. I have the required skill, knowledge and experience which will
enable me to become a clinical nurse educator. I am very much focused on my goal because
it will boost my career. I want to provide the necessary knowledge to the nurses by educating
them in an appropriate manner. I want to develop future nurses who would be responsible to
take care of the patients.
Reflection
Long and short-term goals
My goal is to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of nursing which will
enable me to become an efficient clinical nurse educator. I believe that the demand for nurses
will increase in future due to the increase in the needs of the people. I would develop and
focus on the short term and long term goals in order to achieve success in my life (Bulman &
Schutz, 2013).

Short term goals
Educational requirements
I have to determine and evaluate the education requirements which would be needed to
become a clinical nurse educator. I have found that a master's degree in nursing education
would be required to become a nurse educator. The education requirement would be based on
the type of subject which I would like to teach future nurses. I have the bachelor degree but I
need a master degree to become eligible for being a clinical nurse educator. In registered
nursing programs teaching need master’s degree because it assists in increasing knowledge
about nursing (Feller, 2017).
Developing clinical experience
I have worked as a staff nurse for one year which allowed me to gain significant knowledge
and skills. However, I have gained more experience in a particular area which I would like to
carry out as my profession in future. I should have the required clinical experience in order to
transit myself into the teaching roles. Before reaching the teaching position, I have to
strengthen my treatment, diagnostic and patient care knowledge and skills.
Developing interpersonal skills
I have to seek opportunities in the current position in order to acquire the leadership role and
refining my communication and teaching skills. I would serve as an instructor to the new
nurses. I have to work with the nurses to whom I have to explain everything from updating
the chart of the patient by collaborating with the physicians, nurses and staffs in the hospital.
The following experience will allow to carry out the role of the clinical nurse educator. I am
also working to enhance my confidence level, positive attitude, collaborating skills and
communication skills (Williams, 2018).
Getting a teaching certificate
A degree will allow me to qualify as the clinical nurse educator. The nursing education can
be supported with the teaching certificate such as health professions program and nursing
education which are being offered at the Universities. The program enables the graduates to
qualify for the position of teaching in the clinical settings.

Long-term goals
My long-term goal is to develop my career in the clinical nurse educator. I have found that it
is a field for which the demand is increasing day by day. The long-term goals will assist me
to move in the right direction as well as boost my energy.
Clear vision
I have a clear vision that I want to become a clinical nurse educator. I have to gain more
knowledge and experience in order to achieve the teaching position. I will develop SMART
goals which would direct me towards my long-term goals in an appropriate manner.
Specific
I know what I have to achieve in my life which will enable me to become successful. I want
to become a clinical nurse educator by gaining more knowledge and obtaining the required
degrees. I will take help of my friends and colleagues for supporting my career goals. I know
that the demand for the nurses will increase in future and there would be a need for the nurse

Measurable
The goal of becoming a clinical nurse educator can be measured when I will reach in that
position. Reaching to that position to that position is not enough as I have to show my skills
in order to become an efficient educator. I would like to support the growth of the future
nurse.
Attainable
The goal to become a clinical nurse educator is attainable because it can be achieved by
obtaining degrees and experiences. I have the required capabilities which can allow me to
attain that position. I have to give huge efforts and also have to invest money to achieve my
goal. I have the required capital and talent which will enable to achieve it.
Relevant
The goal is very much relevant to me because I have a bachelor degree in nursing, pursing
diploma in nursing and one year experience as a staff nurse. I have acquired knowledge in the
field of nursing which will support my goal.
Timely

I have to make a time schedule within which I have to achieve my goals. It is very much
important to maintain deadlines for me in order to achieve success. I would keep the timeline
flexible and realistic. After the completion of my education and work field experience, I
would like to serve as a clinical nurse educator.
Differentiating myself
It is significant to set apart from the peers in order to achieve the long-term goals and career
opportunities. I have to enhance my skills and knowledge which will enable to differentiate
myself from others. Apart from this, I will focus on providing excellent services as well as
work hard consistently which is considered to be very much important for becoming an
educator. Developing a strong network is also considered to be necessary that assists stand
out and supporting the objectives. The development of a positive relationship is crucial in
order to connect with the nurses. I will team up and work with the experienced educator that
assists in developing and learning required skills and knowledge (Inscol, 2015).
Leadership
My long-term goal is to enhance my leadership quality and skills. The leadership skills are
very much important and it is needed in the position of an educator. The educator is
responsible to manage students in an appropriate manner. Thus, he or she should have the
capability to direct its students in an appropriate manner. I have to enhance my leadership
knowledge in order to direct future nurses towards their goals in an appropriate manner. A
leader has all the capabilities to manage a situation in an efficient manner (Shepherd,
Stephenson, Ford, Mitchell & Ford, 2017).
Theories and literature
I experienced that a nurse educator plays an important role within the health system. A
trained and professional nurse will always be ready to share information with other nurses.
They use to aware of their challenges and how to manage the critical situation and having
lifesaving knowledge can lead to the hospital's success. I found that a nurse educator can
assist in streaming the process, mitigating the mistakes and recognise the opportunity to
develop process and minimise the risk to the hospital, nurse and patient (Henry., 2013).
Multiple hospitals evaluated their hiring process for a new nurse. This is the reason that many
hospitals are considering working with education institutions in order to reach the rising
demand of BSN degree. As the Nurses who are registered, returning to the school and
newcomers looking for their entry in BSN programs, a high pressure is being faced by the

colleges and universities to discover trained and qualified faculties to trained and educate
future nurses. As the demand of the nurse educators are continuously increasing and it has
become necessary for the RN workforce to focus on meeting the needs of healthcare for
current and future generation.
Role of clinical nurse educator
Nurse educators are a registered nurse having advance clinical training and at the same time
advance education as well. The play multiple roles it starts from a part-time faculty to dean of
a nursing college. The designations of the educator known as Staff development officer,
Instructional or Administrative Nurse faculty, Clinical nurse educator and Continuing
education specialist among others (Rebeiro, Wilson, Scully & Jack, 2017).
The clinical abilities are been combined with responsibilities of nurse educators, and it's
related to
 Teaching and guiding learner
 Developing courses
 Evaluating learning
 Documenting the outcomes of the education process
 Designing curriculum
I noticed that nursing students get help from nurse educators and they also assist in practising
nurses in identifying their learning needs, limitations and strengths. They believe in learning
and never let go a single chance of opportunity which helps them to build up their strengths
and to overcome from limitations.
The nurse educators who work in colleges as a tutor has settled their responsibilities towards
the faculty and other disciplines are:

Part-time teaching service is also being provided by the nurse educators along with their job
in a clinical setting. This allows them to enhance their knowledge and to maintain a high
degree of clinical when helping and sharing their knowledge with newcomers (Smith, 2018).
Responsibilities of clinical nurse educator
I have been reading that clinical nurse educator also known as a specialist in nursing
professional development. And they are responsible for providing the deferent type of
training and development commitment to a healthcare facility. They are more responsible to
in ensuring that the nurses who are on duty have enough skills and training in order to work
properly. It is also important to look into the areas which require training and then need to
create a plan to implement the training (Greenwood, 2018).
It might happen that the hospital face shortage of nurses for a specialized unit and transfer or
promotion require from a different unit in order to help and fill the need. It might look like a
simple process, but it's too complicated. Nurses are specialized in different units and it might
make them take part in procedures or using equipment that they might not be experienced
with. The professional development specialist or the clinical educator needs to work with the
newcomers to identify whether they require any additional training or not, if yes then what
additional training or certification to bring them up. Identifying whether the additional
training is necessary or not- is not less than a part of the battle (Study, 2018).
Benefits
I believe that the nursing teacher touches the lives of future patients, through the hands, heart
and minds of tomorrow's nurses. I shall be getting great satisfaction when my student will be
developing their knowledge, skills and make their own professional identity. Every student
has been gifted with different skills, personality and bank of experience (Waszak, 2018).
Teaching relays on curiosity or interest of a student and it promotes a teacher in digging
deeper regarding the topic. An academic calendar has been set by the school at a time in a
year. And I like this feature as I can plan a vacation and spend personal time with the family.
Summer off also being offered by many nursing schools, I can utilize this time and can work
as a part-time to enhance my knowledge and skills.
Challenges
The challenges are being faced by the nursing students is traditional classroom-based
education to online web-based programs. In order to reach the demand of growing healthcare
the recruitment of qualified and skilled nurses requires. The online education is growing

rapidly and it's providing flexibility in nursing education. It allows watching lectures and
getting course materials online. There is an immediate need of nurses in order to fill up
enlarge place which might not be prepared for. It can be considered that the education of
nursing has been increasing and developing rapidly in the last decade. Shortage of faculty
members in nursing is not new (Peate, Wild & Nair, 2014). The main issue is being faced by
the nursing tutors is the range of salary. The other reason for the shortage of faculty is the
retirements. Every year huge faculty members are getting retired and their position is getting
vacant. This lacking of faculty members is affecting to those students who just took an
admission in nursing. Due to a shortage of faculty members it sets a limit of students that can
be accepted in the nursing program each year.
Nursing theories
A theory has been designed by nurse educators to help nursing students in order to develop
their knowledge and skills. It is applicable in many different conditions.
Self-care nursing theory
This theory highlights the role of nurses in order to support the patients' capacity to take
responsibility for their own and to become self-sufficient. This theory states that everyone
should be aware of his or her health condition and health problems to become self-sufficient
(O’Neal, Zomorodi & Wagner, 2015). The self-care includes actions which need to be taken
by individuals freely in order to maintain well-being, health and life. The actions of the nurse
are directed toward helping the patient on the basis of self-care responsibility.
Culture care theory
A lack of culture and knowledge was being found missing in nursing and patient's care. The
experience she had faced created a theory which known as Culture Care theory and it
describes the outcome of trans-cultural nursing. This theory is based on helping and
providing care to the patient and his/her cultural beliefs. The theory directs the nurses to
know more about the cultures because it influences the wellbeing and health of the patient.
Humanistic Nursing Theory
The theory is also known as a holistic approach. This theory states the ideas which patients
may develop about health. According to this theory, every patient must be considered as an
individual and requires personalized care (Potter, Perry, Stockert & Hall, 2013). The theory

focuses on the relationship between the patient and nurse by taking into account the ability to
interact and be open to provide effective humanistic nursing.
