Flexibility with the current changes in the nursing profession is associated with plenty of
advantages. As a registered nurse, I need to be conversant with the changes that will occur in the
nursing profession and healthcare in the next decade. Being informed of such changes will
enable me to empress diversity, which consequently expands my opportunities. Currently, the
work environment is fluid. Thus, employees who are capable of adopting the shifting priorities
are viewed as valuable assets in the professional market (Wise, Duffield & Roche, 2017).
Flexibility shall improve my competitive advantage in the nursing profession market.
Being aware of the upcoming changes will help me eliminate the likely stress associated
with professional dynamics. Often, it is fundamental to adopt the shifting dynamics of the
workplace quickly. However, some of such changes come along with adverse challenges to the
nursing professionals (Greenglass, & Burke, 2016). Thus, being updated with the associated
challenges will make me prepare and counter the associated stress. Professionals who are caught
unaware of such problems end up stressful in the workplace.
Awareness regarding the likely changes promotes professional development. I am aware
of the anticipated changes, I will identify the possible challenges which will trigger personal
development. Personal, professional development is associated with plenty of advantages. Most
importantly, professional development will make me more competent in the workplace, thus
improving patient outcomes. Also, quality services to the patients will promote their satisfaction
hence easing the operations in the workplace.
My two primary personal contributions to the nursing practice include the promotion of
patient-centred care and patient safety. Plan is to incorporate different strategies to promote

patient-centered care. Firstly, I will promote cultural diversity. Often, patients appreciate services
that comply with their traditional norms and values (Purnell & Fenkl, 2019). Thus, personal
development in diverse cultural aspects is significant. Cultural diversity development
incorporates different approaches. However, I am planning to research from documentaries
regarding the norms of different cultural groups. Also, I will consult culturally diverse experts
with important information about the various patterns and values of the cultural groups.
Secondly, I will promote patient-centered care can in the next five years by developing
interpersonal communication skills (Crawford, Candlin, & Roger, 2017). Often, effective
communication serves a significant role in promoting a good relationship between a nurse and a
patient. I plan to enhance frequent engagement with different classes of patients and online
research on improvement strategies.
Patient safety is also a vital contribution that I would like to fulfill the next five years. I
will start by executing patient education programs. Educating patients about their safety has
proven significant in minimizing accidents in the hospital setting. Secondly, I shall promote
personal development regarding nursing procedures. Most of the harms in the hospital setting
arise from inappropriate adherence to nursing procedures. Furthermore, am planning to execute a
training and development program in the workplace for educating colleague nurses about the
promotion of patient safety. Research reveals more perception of patient safety culture among
nurses with long experience in teaching hospitals (Ammouri, Tailakh, Muliira, Geethakrishnan,
& Al Kindi, 2015). Training and development programs improve competence among the nurses,
thus promoting patients safety.
