Q.What historical trends/milestones in nursing's knowledge development have been
instrumental to you and your career development?
A.
The historical milestones in nursing knowledge development that have been
instrumental in my career development are the integration of the concept of evidence-based
practice and utilisation of advanced technology for an enhanced level of knowledge.
Between the time frame of late 1990’s and 2000, the nursing arena witnessed the
emergence of the concept that evidence in nursing means research, and not theory (Mackey &
Bassendowski, 2017). According to the researchers, evidence-based nursing practice refers to
the judicious and conscientious use of best available evidence for engaging in clinical
decision making process. It is a process of keeping one’s knowledge up to date and extend
current provider-client decision-making process. Such a form of nursing practice is the
accurate integration of patient values, clinical expertise and the best evidence into care
delivery process for desired patient outcomes. I believe that with the successful
implementation of evidence-based practice process, my care delivery would be guided by my
education, clinical skills and cumulated experience. The complete utilisation of these
components would enable me to take decisions that enhance the opportunity for better patient
outcomes.
In the past one decade, the use of advanced technology for gaining knowledge and
conducting research has increased at a noteworthy level. Since the beginning of application of
technology in the nursing field, it noted as a key nursing knowledge enhancement tool, only
to remain in momentum within the healthcare sector (Daly et al., 2017). My practice as a
nurse would be guided by application of technological aids to collect current and rich

information from diverse sources. In future, evidence-based nursing would be promoted
suitably by use of technological aids.
Response 1.
I am strongly moved by your commitment and dedication towards the nursing
profession and feel motivated to work in this respectable field. While it is true that the
nursing profession is still not considered as a reputable and decent occupation in many
countries of the world, the same is not the situation in the US. The country has made much
progress in the last many decades in connection to healthcare and authorities across the arena
propagate the message of treating health care professionals with dignity and humanely. For
countries such as Nepal where the perspective about nursing is still confined within
traditional beliefs, education and awareness are strongly required. It is imperative for
governing bodies to know that healthcare can only be of optimal quality if the philosophy of
continual learning is integrated across domains of nursing practice.
Response 2.
Your post has been an informative one highlighting the role of DNP-prepared nurses
in the contemporary era against the increasing trend of evolving healthcare demands.
Looking into the fragmented healthcare system of the country and the rising health issues on
a global scale I firmly opine that there is a need of advanced practice nurses who can serve as
flexible leaders and provide care in an independent manner. Much of our respite, these exact
skills can be achieved by receiving a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. This skilled
workforce would certainly act as autonomous decision makers, enabling appropriate
healthcare policy reforms. They would be experts in advanced clinical practice, meeting the
demand for high quality, safe, and affordable care while fostering evocative changes in our
nation’s healthcare system.
