Critical Reflection on Patient Care in a Nursing Home Setting

Critical Reflection

I have observed and learned through the care and services facilitated by the nursing home
in context with giving the utmost care and support to the patients which are suffering from the
depression and several diseases. However, As per the dignity and care which is being presented
in the video that defines that the Nursing is not only serving the patients with the medicines or
treatments but they do care about the emotions and nervous breakdowns of them. The care and
support will help them in enhancing the health and brings the mental stability. I have analysed
that Old patient has the most memorable past which is reflected in her feeling has emotions to
every act and every moment. Thus, such feelings are having the in-depth roots in her heart that
she always remember. She has strong memory about her past life like her father, mother, brother
and sisters as well as the fun time she has spent with them. I learned that how a Nursing staff is
helping her to overcome with diseases and feelings in her mind that will help her and motivate
her to make the adequate efforts.
I observed that the caring and loving behaviours off Nurses in this story and short film
helps in making the appropriate healthy environment. She has the beautiful memory of her first
true love at the age of 16 which has reflected in her expressions and the ways she smiled.
Therefore, it can be said that the care and support will lead her to make the appropriate overcome
with disease and the memories she has. As person she is having the most emotional heart and the
unforgettable moments which are motivating her that she can do it. She some times thought to
resist feeding, bedding but the support of staff helped her to make efforts.
By seeing video, I have assessed that Old patient is suffering from the emotional issues or
problem. In the age of 16, Old patient was fallen in love but in the old age due to illness she is
facing the issue of depression. Hence, in the depressive situation such lady wants special
attention or care to move out from the present situation. The rationale behind this, caring and
supporting environment develops joy and happiness among the people. Thus, considering all
such aspects, it can be depicted special care is required for protecting individuals from the
situation of depression.
Old patient who is now admitted in the care home is very ill and almost on the last stage
of her life. She is laying on bed of the nursing home and is been treated by the nursing home
where she is remembering about her past life. I have observed that she is not in the condition to
even take her own food as the nurse who is treating her is providing her with the food and soup.

It seems that she is missing her past life very much and thinking about her childhood days. In her
childhood days she was very happy and marry go child who was there with her parents and
siblings. Old patient who is very ill because of her old age and was there in the care home and
treated with full respect and honer. All the staff member of the care home are very good and they
help the old patient in doing daily work and was assisted by the nurses at the day care home. The
doctors were very good and they were helping old patient in their treatment and taking care of
her who was very ill. The condition of that old patient was not very much good as she was
suffering from illness.
At the time when the nurse was offering her the soup she was thinking about her past life
when she a happy and healthy child while laying on the bed of nursing home. She was thinking
about how she used to play with her siblings during the family outings. She portrayed a picture
of her childhood outing with her parents and siblings. Where she was playing with them in the
garden and was very happy. She was thinking about that time and as she had lost all her relations
till the present age so she was depressed with the situation.
She need to cope up with the situations and condition of the present age and cried
because of her condition. The present condition as per her age and illness was not very good as
compared to the past life.

What?

The critical incident framework of Driscoll model which will be covering what, so what
and now what model of the incident. This model is often used in reflective journals in describing
nursing skills. As according to Driscoll model there are three process when reflecting on the
practice like what happened, what was the feeling about good or bad experience and last is now
will be happing again what will be done. There are some skills which will be developing in
reflection of the critical reflection of nursing. The first part of Driscoll model will be telling
about the incident which was the experience of old lady. That old patient was admitted in nursing
home and she was thinking about her past life when she was in her childhood and at young age.
At the present time she was feeling very lonely and was not well feeling ill. She was laying on
the bed of nursing home and then she was missing her childhood days.
So what?
Then come the second step of Driscoll model which is so what in this model position
view point and action. This will be also telling about the during and pre incidents like what was
the patient feeling at the time of her thinking.
Now what?
Then the last part will be now what section which will be making connections from the
experience and incident to future actions. Like if the same situation arises in future then what
need to be done. The old lady was seemed to be in depression because there were no one with
whom she can talk and share her experience of what was she thinking or she has gone through in
the past.
