Section 1:
1. How do the Professional Standards impact on your actions as an RN?
Answer: As a registered nurse I need to focus on the patient safety and care quality. I find that
the therapeutic relationship development with the patient will be effective in the communication
and understanding development with the patient. In this context, I can find that the process of the
care should be considering the patient priority. I can also find that the process of the patient care
plan should be developed with the consideration of the nursing ethics and the legal factors.
Hence, the professional standards of nursing are the primary frameworks which should be
followed by the registered nurses. I find that the knowledge of the care process can be shaped by
the consideration of these frameworks developed by the NMBA. I can state that the framework
or the standards of professional nursing can develop and improve the skills and the knowledge
level of a nurse. As a registered nurse I can find that these standards of therapeutic relationship
development with patients, effective communication, collaboration, patient safety and quality of
care maintenance are the process which effectively helped me in the development of the nursing
competences. I also find these factors very much useful in the care plan development process.
These factors helped me in planning and delivering the care process in an effective way as these
aspects directed my care process for every patient. These standards also properly indicate the
different intervention planning, different skills and knowledge implementation and also different
follow up processes should be implemented for different patients. I find it amusing that if all
these standards are not present then what will be the nursing care process and how much
effective that process will be. I can state that the as registered nurse the professional standards

should be followed by me and these standards helped me in shaping the knowledge, skills and
the care process of me regarding care of my patients.

7. Why is collaboration important in Nursing?
Answer: Nursing care is a complex process and dependent on many factors. I find the most
important aspect of the nursing care is providing support to the patient with all the priority to the
needs of the patient. Hence, the ethical and legal factors of the care process should be
maintained. However, there are patients present who are experiencing complex health issues and
the care is provided by a multidisciplinary team. Hence, we nurses are needed to communicate
and collaborate with each of the team members for the better outcome of the patient. On the
other hand, the understanding and the rapport with the patient is also required with higher
priority. As we nurses are the primary care delivery agents for the patients, we need to
collaborate with other care specialists and also the care staffs as well. We need to communicate
and also effectively understand the patient needs and also help the patients in daily requirements.
In this context, I can state that the collaboration skills and also the interprofessional collaboration
skills are very much important for the nurses. Without collaboration the needs of the patients
cannot be addressed and also the understating and the trust will not be achieved which will
eventually hamper the caring procedure and also the health outcome of the patient. Furthermore,
I can state that the collaboration is one of the basic skills of nursing which will eventually help
the nurse to achieve the customer satisfaction. In other words, I can state that without proper
collaboration a nurse cannot deliver the exact care to a patient. Thus, collaboration is one of the
most important factors in the nursing context. I should also tell that the collaboration trait of a

nurse is important as well as it effectively help the nurse to develop knowledge and skills
improved care delivery.
Section 3:
2. Can you draw on an experience where you demonstrated practising patient safety? Describe
your actions in this situation.
Answer: I was working in the day shift of the orthopaedic department. There were a number of
patients and I was supervising particularly an elderly patient who was admitted for a fall injury
and he was partially immobile. Thus, I had to check the patient’s vitals and also, I had to
administer the needed medicines to the patient. Now, I was communicating the patient and used
the bed cage to reduce the risk again for the patient. I have supporting the patient about the
washroom use and also providing holistic care approach. I recorded all the changes in the
patient’s condition and the observation report has been provided to the doctor within regular
intervals. The patient was partially immobile thus, the chance of the pressure ulcer development
is also present in this case. Hence, I had to change the position of the patient after two hours
intervals and the patient had the wound in the left leg which was dressed everyday by me. I
followed all the prescribed medications for the dressing process and also maintained the safety of
the patient. At the time of the shift changing I have developed the ISBAR record for the night
shift nurse and also demonstrated all the requirements of the patient every day. Thus, I can state
that I have maintained and focused on the patient centred approach of care along with the focus
on the effective care interventions. I have developed the ISBAR with the dosage and the timing
of the food and medication intake of the patient. In the ISBAR I also mentioned the process of
the dressing and the position changing timings of the patient for the proper observation and
reduction of the chances of the pressure ulcer development.

5. What does patient centred care mean to you?
Answer: Patient centred care is one of the most important nursing frameworks. I can state that
the need of the patient centred care cannot be marked in a quantifying manner. The patient
centred approach of care is the primary motive of the nursing practice. I think this is the
framework which includes all the factors of the nursing and also provide the safe and quality care
to the patients. I can feel that the patient centred approach is also the process of the care delivery
through prioritising the patient needs over anything else. This approach focused on the evidence
based care delivery approach and also the proper focus on the effective communication or the
rapport development with the patient and also helping the patient to achieve the positive health
outcome. I think this process of the care should be focusing on the improvement of the health of
the patient and also educating the patient about maintaining the positive health outcome. Thus,
the patient centred care delivery process is effective in achieving all the nursing goals for the
care delivery process. However, this framework is also dependent on the knowledge, skills and
the behaviour of the nurses. On the other hand, the process of the care delivery considering this
framework should be developed with the proper ethical consideration and also the legal
considerations. Moreover, the nursing standards should be maintained as well to deliver the
proper care using the patient centred care approach. Hence, I can also state that the patient
centred care delivery approach is one of the most relevant and also effective care delivery
process for the patients and this should be followed by all the nurses. I follow the framework for
the improvement of the situation for the patients whom I have delivered care.

Reflection
1. Overall out of 10 (with 10 being excellent and 1 being poor) would you rate your performance
during the interview? Briefly explain why.
Answer: I can give me 8 out of 10 as the interview questions I have answered all the questions
as per my understanding. I have not hesitated for answering any of the questions. However, I
have lacked some of nursing competences which can be marked as the negative points for me.
As the interview process went well, I can give me a higher mark.
2. Are you able to identify any actions/strategies that helped you feel confident at interview?
Answer: I have been confident in the process of the interview as my communication skills are
good. I can use the communication strategies depending on the situation so it helped me. I have
used the active listening skills and also provided the expected answers accordingly with the
positive communicative tone. I can also state that the process of the collaborative skills I have
developed during the care placement helped me in the communication and collaboration with the
interviewer. This strategy helped me effectively answer the questions in an appropriate way.
3. Discuss any actions that demonstrated that you were engaged with the interviewer and actively
listening
Answer: I let the interviewer end his sentences and also used the non-verbal communication
skills which effectively engaged the interviewer. I collaborated with the interviewer according to
his questions and also answered the questions after listening the questions properly. I have used
the active listening skills and nodded my head or moved my hands accordingly to engage the
interviewer. Moreover, I used the positive tone at the time of the interview which helped me and
the interviewer to be engaged in the interview process. As I showed interest in the process of the
interview the interviewer got engaged as well.

4. Discuss if you thought that your responses were comprehensive and well structured
Answer: I think my responses are short and appropriate. I think the questions asked by the
interviewer were very important aspects of the nursing. However, these factors cover a vast
amount of knowledge. Thus, I think I provided very concise answers according to the questions.
However, I do not know about the structure or any other factors properly. I think the answers
were appropriate and also comprehensive.
5. Discuss if you thought that you spoke clearly at all times.
Answer: I think I spoke clearly in the whole interview process. However, sometimes I have lost
some of my words in the conversation. This, should be improved my me and it should be
considered with priority as it can hamper the communication with the patients. I should control
my emotions in the professional setting and focus on the patient health improvement. Thus, I can
state that the improvement of the care delivery is also dependent on this process. I should
improve the wordings and the expressions sometimes.
6. Describe your body language during the interview.
Answer: I was holding myself in a formal way and I was very much positive about the interview
process. I held a straight posture and also held my hands in the front of my lap. The sitting was
very much formal and also focused on the positive eye contact based conversation. I was not
casual in the interview process and also focused on the positive output of the interview.
Somehow, I was nervous at first and the nervousness went away with time and I have provided
all the answers properly.
7. Discuss how you used the STARR technique to structure your responses

Answer: I was focused on the positive responses. Hence, I used the STARR framework to
answer the questions. Thus, I have listened the questions with appropriate active listening and
analysed the question which is the situational analysis. After analysis I can develop the idea
about the answer and that can be marked as the task. Thus, I have made a plan to answer the
answer and cover specific factors in the answer. The action was specific factors answering the
process of the conversation. Finally, I have analysed the result of the answer through the
approach of my conversation and also the body language of the interviewer who actually
recognised my knowledge and skills properly. This way I have maintained the STARR
framework.
8. Describe three things you felt you demonstrated well across the interview
Answer: I felt that I have demonstrated my skills and the process of the care should be provided
by the nurses in a proper manner. The factor of the nursing care and the importance of the skills
and the tools I have demonstrated in a proper way. Hence, I have provided the answers in a
positive manner and it was properly demonstrating the factors of the questions.
9. Discuss any areas that you didn’t demonstrate so well across the interview that you may need
to work on to improve your interview performance in future?
Answer: I think I lacked the process of the patient centred approach framework theory
demonstration in the interview process. Hence, I should consider this factor and also develop it
for the improved interview process. I should improve the process of the communication as well
for both the care process and the interview.
10. Can you identify any strategies/steps you can take to improve your performance at interview?
Answer: I think I should develop the interview skills through strategically practising the
communication skills and also properly learning about the context of the nursing. I think by

communicating with other colleagues will be effective in the process of the interview skills
development as it will develop both the knowledge and the communication skills.
