AI Summary
This report, focusing on nursing research and informatics, examines the American Medical Association's (AMA) integration of information technology (IT) in healthcare. It highlights the use of electronic health records, telehealth, and mobile health (mHealth) technologies to improve patient care, communication, and reduce medical errors. The report discusses the strengths of these technologies, such as enhanced efficiency and safety, and the weaknesses, including usability challenges and security concerns. It underscores the critical role of nurses in utilizing these technologies effectively. The report emphasizes the importance of training and education for nurses to ensure the error-free delivery of medical services and suggests recommendations to improve healthcare quality through IT adoption. The assignment also touches on the significance of patient data confidentiality and the continuous evaluation of technology services to improve healthcare outcomes.

Executive Summary
American Medical Association uses the most recent technology in nursing care like electronic
health records, telemedicines, mHealth. The assignment will show that the IT technology is most
effectively used by the nurses to deliver error free medical services. The improvements in health
service as proposed is that it will be also useful in easy communication, accessing all the medical
services in time. The anticipated risks are also highlighted which includes the less knowledge of
the manuals of the technological procedures, ethical issues. The recommendations of this report
is also given that will show how the nurses can improve the quality of the medical services by
effectively using IT technology.

The care continuum of American Medical Association
American Medical Association (AMA) is one of the largest health care organizations in
United States that employs a wide spectrum of physicians and medical students. In the
continuum of care the organization has excelled by providing an advanced and recent science of
medicines and health care services (ama-assn.org, 2017). The continuum of care is increased by
using the recent developed information technology systems. This association has added many
health care technologies that have integrated a strong practice in nursing care. Nurses require the
telecommunication systems for easy access with the patients and the doctors, solutions to
eliminate automated works, provide regulatory functions, easy access to resources. Thus the
telecommunication systems have increased the safety and care in the health services.
Use of the information and communication technologies
Since the organization has adopted the most innovative technology tools in information
and communication. The nurses practice he most efficient health care services that are errorless
with the use of recent technologies. The digital health has the greatest role to play in the practice
of medicines. They involve the telemedicines, telehealth, mobile health( mHealth), wearables
( Fitbit), apps. This will use IT or the information technologies with the aim in increasing the
patient care, improving the health services and also enhancing the progress in health care
services (Lucas et al, 2013). AMA is providing informatics to navigate the communication
between the health care unit and the patients and improve the patient centered care services. The
organization encourages for the use of the health IT programs like the electronic health record.
The electronic health records can reduce several errors like the prescription drugs, preventive
care, tests and the treatment procedures. This will send the alerts to the clinicians with the

intervals of preventive care and track the treatment procedures that are to be followed. The
prescription errors are also prevented by the computerized provider order entry. Even the bar
code system in drugs can prevent the errors of the drugs usage (Nekhlyudov et al, 2014). Thus
the information technologies have helped the nurses with the reduction in medical errors in
treatment. Information and communication technology will also facilitate the communication of
nurses during the sharing of information regarding the health conditions (Cresswell, Bates &
Sheikh, 2013). The mobile apps and messages will remind the treatment procedures to the
patients by the nurses. The care efficiency, quality and safety is improved by the nurses with the
use of the patient care IT technology. The nurses will able to deliver the most conceptualized
care service.
Weakness and the strength of the information and communication technologies constraints
The major weakness that is identified is the use of the electronic health record. There are
lots of challenges regarding the usability and the workflow regarding the use of this technology.
There could be loss of privacy and security concerns with the use of the data. The maintenance
cost of EHR is very high due to the replacement and updating of the software and hardware in
regular basis. There could be a very high chance in the disruption in the workflow for lack of
knowledge of the care service providers (Maillet, Mathieu & Sicotte, 2015). Thus the electronic
health record provides huge challenges for the nurses. The organization strength is that it has
replaced the usability of the electronic health records and has implemented modern technologies
like the telemedicines, mHealth apps that are actively used by the nurses in the care services..
They provide quality based services by cutting down all the major challenges associated with the
maintenance of the telecommunication services. The good quality services will able to reduce
more of the errors that can occur in the medical interventions. The nursing care could be

practiced efficiently with the use of such communication tools. IT technology can be used in the
nursing care for the documentation that will increase the patient safety and maximizes the
nursing care practice. IT technologies wil be useful in reducing the medical errors. They will
keep the good record of progression of treatments and will keep the documents. The technologies
will be useful to remind the patients and doctors about the appointments and treatment
procedures.
Patient care technology improvements will acquire the positive outcomes with the
improvements in health safety, quality. For the instance, in managing the electronic health
records the nurses need to be very careful with workflow. They also should maintain the
confidentiality of the data while using the electronic health records for keeping the patients data.
The technologies should be used with high quality because it could then permeate the desired
health outcomes (Arnold & Boggs, 2015). The main goal in the improvement of the health care
technologies will rely on the evaluation of the technology services for improving the outcomes.
Nurses can play a huge role in the tasks of improving the quality of the health care with respect
to the technology services. This will result in giving the most accurate medical services (Button,
Harrington & Belan, 2014).
Role of nurses to provide the effective care through technology services
The role of nurses will rely on providing the most accurate health services with the recent
use of information and communication technologies. The effectiveness will be measured in the
limit of the well trained nurses who will know the correct use and procedures of the
technologies. Thus it will help in providing the error free medical interventions by the nurses to
the patient. The IT technology will not only improve the care services of the nurses nut will also

give them appropriate nursing education. This will be vital for treating any critical cases of the
patients.
