usually work in outpatients units, hospital wards, in a patient's home, nursing homes, in prison
hospitals or even in the private sector. Adult nurses usually take care of patients brought in for
different types of diseases (Smythe, Jenkins, Galant-Miecznikowska, Bentham & Oyebode 2017
p.89). Within their care, there are usually accident victims, cancer patients and even patients due
to nutrition diseases. The adult nurses should always, therefore, aim at creating a positive

Career pathway
After attaining my degree and registering with the Council of Nursing and Midwifery, I
would like to join a hospital and work as an adult nurse. I would like to serve various patients
and also change the lives of many patients in my line of work. I would also like to earn various
skills like counseling and managerial skills while working (Tait, James, Williams & Barton 2015
p.78). In a few years time, I would like to be promoted to a managerial position specifically to
the position of an administrative nurse or even an executive nurse (Ea & Bai, 2017 p.189). Later
in my career, I would like to head the nurses' union so as to change the lives of the nurses too.
Pros and cons of going to university
University education is very important as it is a stepping stone to achieve the dreams of
an individual. Going to the university would increase the chances of an individual getting a job.
This is through providing one with internship opportunities to different companies. Another
advantage of going to university is that it would provide an individual with the opportunity to

interact with other people since there are always different people within the university. The
university degree awarded also increases the earning potential of a worker. University experience
also trains an individual to be independent in life. Going to university also has its disadvantages.
For instance, life at university is normally expensive. This is because apart from the tuition fee,
an individual would be forced to cater for other expenses such as accommodation, food, and
even entertainment. In some cases, gaining practical experiences is rare as most universities
normally focus on theory. The workload in university at times could be intensive therefore
limiting the time an individual would have to do research. In universities, there is always a lot of
peer pressure, therefore, making it difficult for an individual with little to no self-discipline to
avert temptations (Lewis, 2018 p.56).
