Nurse leaders help make decisive decisions that help better the current health care system in
hospitals. They develop strategies and find ways to enact or impose these strategies in peaceful
manners hence improving the healthcare system. Listed below are the strategies nurses can use
and how they can implement them by being role models to others.
Nurse leaders should motivate the staff nurses to encourage patients to comply with filling in
their prescriptions as per stated by the doctors. The nurses ought to be well aware of their
patient’s ability to afford the medication prescribed and should also encourage their patients
more often to apply for insurance care which may aid in catering their medical bills (Murray,
2017). Nurses should also keep tabs on their patient`s once they complete their prescription and
they require a refill. Nurses should analyze the case with the doctors responsible for issuing the
medication and allow the doctor to deem what is the best choice for the patient. This can be
achieved if the nurse leaders improve the communication skills between hospitals and other
pharmacies. Development of a medical record for every patient that gets a prescription and
storing their records in form of data in a secure computerized system that is only accessible by
qualified medical practitioners to avoid any misuse or illegal issuing of drugs. (Parand, Dopson,
Renz, & Vincent, 2014). Nurse leaders can achieve this by improving communication
between all medical practitioners in a hospital. The level of communication should be up-to-date
information concerning the patient care, treatments and services rendered, and any expected
changes. The medic staff, ought to be interactive to enable easier discussion between those who
give and receive patient information to make good calls about how to deal with the patients. If
the nurse leaders can encourage all the staff in hospitals to work and count on each other by

holding seminars and speeches on how it helps improve the patient care of the facilities, this
unifies the workers and boost team reliability and cooperation. (Kodama & Fukahori, 2017)
Nurse leaders should be able to find errors in the system be it in the issuing of drugs, provision
of drugs from the factories, lack of efficient handling of lab results and equipment, and dealing
with different patients. The nurse leaders should develop training programs for the staff to help
them improve their skills and knowledge in all aspects that their job requires them. The nurse
leaders should educate their nurses on which type of patient calls they should try and handle
themselves and the serious cases they should pass on to the doctors immediately after answering
the call. Nurse leaders should also inspire their staff to do keep records of all calls and also do
follow-ups on the patients they have attended to as checkups on their status (Hao & Yazdanifard,
2015).
I being a professional nurse tend to obey both of these two principles, the oral medication
handling and patient handling principle. This because any issuing of prescription pills to patients
who do not have their doctor’s approval could lead to my medical license being revoked. Also,
the mistreatment of patient’s may lead to lawsuits which may destroy my image to my clients
and may render me persona non grata to them. If found guilty the judge has the right to take
away my license and render me jobless.
