I have been a meritorious student throughout my academic career and have also been a consistent
and versatile performer in my professional life. In this regard, I would like to mention about a
professional life incident where in I learnt the virtue of coming to terms with conflict and having
faith in self. In the year, 2019, I had the opportunity to be selected for the Criti’s I LEAD
(Inspiring Leadership through Education) program. The program primarily focused on bringing
top performers at the AVP level to appropriately impart relevant training so as to develop them
into future leaders of the banking sector. The program imparted learning about conflict
management, working within a culturally diverse work environment, develops understanding
about the social system of others, respect others and effectively resolve conflicts.
As a part of the program, the professionals were segregated into teams. I was also one of the
members of a 6 member team. My team comprised of professionals from different cultural
background that included, one from the Philippine and one from China and other from different
parts of the world. After the completion of the program, each team had to present the key take
away and the learning outcome in the form of a power point. However, the rules stated that only
one member from each team could present. It was while deciding as to who would present, a
conflict situation arose as both one of my colleagues and myself were interested to present.
Being an extrovert and being proficient with presenting, it was difficult for me to include
everyone’s opinion and be a part of the collaborative decision making process that my colleague
would be the ideal presenter for the team. The decision saddened me and I could experience a
better sense of defeat. I was unable to rest peacefully and it was then that I decided to consult
with the mentor who was mentoring our team.

My mentor supported my decision and encouraged me by telling me this was not the only
opportunity life had to offer me. I felt extremely positive an motivated and at the end of the
program I was awarded Citi’s Gratitude Gold Award for the Program.
Key takeaways: Respect everyone, appreciate and encourage yourself, work inclusively and
never feel de-motivated
