A healthcare team member introduced herself as an Emergency Nurse (ER) Manager in an
organization. As a health care team member and an ER Manager, her role is to work with
healthcare professionals, nurses and physicians to plan long-term care needs, monitor health
conditions and provide care. It is the responsibility of the ER manager to advise patients and
their families regarding illness, perform minor medical operations and use medical equipment
and administer medicine (Papoutsi et al., 2017). She believes that professionalism is confirming
to the nursing and ethical standards of care. Self-regulation is determined to be the capability to
stay professional under strong pressures. She later adds that being professional it is the
responsibility of a nurse to maintain a positive attitude, taking responsibility in maintaining other
credentials, keeping the license and being accountable. As per her opinions as a healthcare
professional, she possesses a significant responsibility towards her patients, towards herself and
her colleagues. Professionalism influences her work by showing teamwork, respect and striving
hard to provide quality care and the capability to make appropriate decisions. It is also applied to
personal appearances which means one dress in such a way that determines the values of the
organization. Usually, individuals make judgements related to the appearance of a person, and if
the appearance seems to be unkempt and floppy, then it can present an image of incompetence.
Therefore, she states that she will strive hard to enhance her confidence level to serve quality
care, although she experiences conflict within the organization.
She believes that steward is the one who helps in managing people, take care of someone or
something. It is the responsibility of a steward leader to serve the best possible care and assure
best outcome patient outcomes (Berg, Hicks & Roberts, 2017). She also believes that all the
nurses within a healthcare system are stewards, although they do not possess the quality of
servant leadership. Thus, she considers herself as a steward of healthcare as she takes efficient
care of the patients by monitoring their healthcare needs and being well organized. As per her
views, it is significant for the nurses to become advocates to their subordinates, supervisors,
colleagues and patients. Authenticity can not only affect the healthcare society and the delivery
system but also creates an impact on the nursing workforce. Later she adds that true leaders

utilize power carefully and subtly that avoids the self-esteem of an individual. In order to become
a true leader, it is significant to influence others to make appropriate decisions.
Based on her responses, it is realized that in order to enhance professionalism while working in a
healthcare setting, it is significant to maintain responsibility and accountability. Being a steward
leader in healthcare, the nurses have to manage things appropriately by understanding the needs
of the patients. I acknowledge that nurses are required to advocate the patients and colleagues by
supporting them to create a positive impact on their profession. To enhance authenticity, it is
significant to create a healthy work environment for nursing practice (Chater & Courtenay,
2019). I gathered knowledge that power lies in the proficiency and understanding of the nursing
practice.
