Question 1
A team member introduced himself as a clinical psychologist within a clinical psychological
department. As a clinical psychologist, his role is to promote personal development and
wellbeing and recognize psychological distress. His major role is to improve patient's quality of
life, preventing diseases and promoting healthy behavior. He is responsible for being available to
patients in different care programs. He states that professionalism in healthcare is all about
providing quality and safe care to the patients. Professionalism is the ability to perform with
competence, consideration, empathy and integrity (Chambers et al., 2019). As per his views,
healthcare is fulfilled by the teams of professionals who are required to maintain responsibility
and confidentiality for their actions, respect for others, respecting the principles of honesty and
communicating well. He states that professionalism influences his work by assessing, treating
and diagnosing the behavioral dysfunctions and psychological issues that are associated with
mental and physical health. According to him leaders in his organization are stewards of
healthcare as they are highly focused towards promoting and preserving the inherent value by
respecting the ability of every member to execute a work, by applying cognitive skills and wise
management. In healthcare, setting stewardship determines to practice in the best interest of staff
and patient needs. The leaders are stewards as they are well aware of how to manage a critical
situation and provide quality care to the patients. Stewardship and servant leadership are
considered to be similar ideologies when executing a leadership role. Thus, he believes that
without applying the principles of stewardship, one cannot practice as a servant leader.
Based on his perspective, it is significant for leaders to blend advocacy, authenticity, along with
power and influence in such a way to encourage group members to perform better. He adds that
leadership possess huge responsibility other than controlling a group. Leaders can influence
colleagues by being authentic. An efficient leader works with their colleagues to work towards
bringing change and come to a common opinion (Sherriff et al., 2018). He states that individuals
positively respond to a leader who is authentic to accept their faults. Similarly, a true leader
should be able to use their power that indicates how they manage a situation. A true leader must
influence others to implement and support decisions that the group members and leaders
determine necessary.

However, after listening to his views on professionalism, leadership and stewardship in a
healthcare setting, I came across different aspects. Based on his responses regarding
professionalism, it is realized that professionalism is all about following personal values and
standards along with the standards of the workplace environment. It is also acknowledged that
leaders within the healthcare setting must possess the qualities of stewardship. As a steward, it is
the responsibility of the leaders to identify the requirements of environment consideration and
patients carefully (Leep Hunderfund et al., 2017). Therefore, I realized the fact that Stewardship
is significant in clinical settings in consideration of both leadership and patients. By considering
his response, it is realized that leaders must exercise professional influence, power, authenticity
and advocacy.
