Reflecting on my experience as a nurse enrolled in an MSN program in Leadership
and Managment, I would like to state that my views of the nursing profession on the whole,
my thoughts and belief about my practice, and my views about the the chosen speciality have
changed drastically in a positive direction through the program. In addition, I would like to
highlight my current ambitions and two goals in relation to this ambition. Further, I would
like to throw light on how I can capitalise my knowledge and skills for becoming a leader in
my field and uphold professional development.
As a nurse, I have gained confidence through the program that I have immense
potential to shape up the future of patient care. Earlier, I was uncertain about the exact
manner in which healthcare leaders can influence nursing care delivery. The program has
taught me the essence of leadership that when applied in a suitable manner can lead to
optimal quality care services. I have developed the feeling that the nursing professional is an
amalgamation of arts and science. Science is applied in providing direct interventions
whereas the process in which holistic care is delivered is an art. My MSN program has
prepared me for a management role as a nurse administrator that aids in developing essential
leadership and management skills. I have gained insight into how collaborative and effective
leadership and management can support the goal of bringing improvements in patient
outcomes. The program is beneficial for gaining strategies in planning, decision making and
human resources that would be advantageous for the future.
The professional role that I now wish to achieve is different from what is was before.
Earlier, my focus was to become a successful nursing professional targeting proper care
delivery. The program has guided me in directing my thoughts and viewpoints for attaining
broader professional success. At present, my ambition is to be known as a successful nurse
leader and manager in future. In this regard, my goals are to demonstrate suitable leadership

qualities within the clinical context for gearing towards bringing out the best in other
professionals and to engage in clear and effective communication skills.
Though my MSN program is the foundational stone for enhancing my skills and
knowledge, I believe that further interventions are required for capitalising this base that I
have formed. Since my key focus would be revolving around communication, I would
complete a short course on communication skills that would exclusively address this aspect.
The program would put me in a position to demonstrate proper formal and informal
communication skills. I can further enhance my knowledge on leadership and management
through taking part in online discussion forums. This would act as a platform for exchanging
information and ideas with professionals from the same field. Personal experiences and
viewpoints can be shared with each other that is a rich pool of knowledge. Further. I would
engage in continual research for keeping myself abreast of the latest news and the current
affairs in the field of nursing leadership and management. In this manner, it is hoped that I
would be able to fulfil my mission successfully.
