Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment provides a detailed comparison between nursing practice problems and medical practice problems, offering distinct examples for each. A medical problem, such as a stroke, focuses on the pathology and treatment of the disease, while a nursing problem addresses the patient's response to the condition, like impaired communication. The assignment emphasizes the importance of using the PICOT framework (Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) in nursing practice to guide effective patient care. It explains how PICOT helps in formulating relevant questions, guiding interventions, and evaluating outcomes, ensuring that patient care is tailored to their specific needs and health issues. The solution provided explains the benefits of using PICOT for the patient care and the role of the nursing practice.

Nursing
A medical problem is a problem that is related to the medical condition or disease of the patient
while nursing problem refers to the problem that interacts with the human response to actual or
potential health problem and life process as well. For instance, in case of a medical problem
diagnosis, Cerebrovascular Attack (CVA or Stroke) provides information about the patient’s
pathology and faces problem in analysing the ways to correct it. While, the nursing problem is
related to the impaired verbal communication at workplace that can lead to the risk of falls or
interrupted family processes etc. (Fain, 2017).
PICOT stands for Problem/ Patient, Intervention and Comparison, Outcome. It refers to the
process that is used to generate effective and important questions for the good clinical care of the
patient. It should be noted that PICOT is important for the treatment of the patient because it
directly provides a view of the patient or the problem and facilitate the search for the answer.
PICOT makes the process of patient care easier by highlighting all the relevant and important
points and taking actions for the patient care accordingly. It is important to ensure that the
PICOT is based on the nursing practice problem because it clinically describes the important
characteristics of the patient and their problem, interventions to be considered, analysis of the
alternatives and evaluations of questions in the environment. In nursing practices, PICOT help in
guiding the medical practitioners with the course of actions and implement them to the patient
care accordingly (Archer, & Bowden, 2019).
