The essay will discuss a case study where a nurse has depicted unprofessional conduct of work
duties as she has disregarded various professional requirements. The nurse in this case study has
exhibited professional misconduct while giving care to patients. The nurse is a medical
practitioner who is educationally qualified and has work experience with a license to practice.
The essay will discuss examples where this nurse fails to maintain and develop effective
documentation and the areas or departments of the hospital which will be impacted by the
professional misconduct of this nurse.
It is extremely necessary to maintain proper and accurate records of the documents to support for
medical information and procedures. Proper development of records provides with opportunities
to clearly explain the medical conditions and journey of the patient. Ineffective or failure in
maintaining the records in medical terms may lead to various issues and conflicts for the hospital
(Neumann, Davis & Littles, 2019, pp.431). The case study has presented various pieces of
evidence where it is clear that the nurse fails to maintain adequate documentation of the patient’s
records. The nurse fails to keep a document requiring a postoperative assessment of a patient
being operated for a colonoscopy. A post-operative is an essential document which aids in
maintaining the records of health for the patients. The nurse further failed to record for the vital
signs of q4h and forgot to provide the patient with a dose of Septra which is essential for medical
operations. The nurse also failed to document a pain assessment for the patient this could impact
on the health and further medical procedures of the patient. The patient required to fasting in
order to go in for the operation and but the nurse failed in it also fed the patient with breakfast.
Further, the nurse was unable to mention this in the assessment documents and failed to inform
the effective team about feeding the patient breakfast.

The case study has provided evidence of professional misconduct by a nurse in a professional
setting. Due to the negligence and mistakes of the nurse, the hospital and the patient has to suffer
various issues and problems in the operations and other fields of medical practice. Several
departments function in a hospital which has been impacted by the professional misconduct of
the nurse in the hospital settings. The departments such as the Finance Department, Medical
Records, Health Care Department and Information Management Departments are impacted in
this case. The Finance department is impacted as the nurse fails to report about the medical
consumptions and medicines consumed by the patients. She fails to maintain a record of the
medical expenses undertaken by the patient. She failed to maintain a proper record for the
admission and history of the patient in terms of the bills. The Department of Health Care is also
impacted by the failures of a nurse to maintain records and provide with adequate health care to
the patients (Urden, Stacy & Lough, 2017). The health care department was not informed about
the nurse feeding the patient before the process of Colonoscopy which created issues in the
medical procedure. The Department of Medical Records is impacted as the nurse failed to
maintain records and information of the patient. This hampered creating a medical history of the
patient.
The nurse is a licensed practitioner and is experienced in the field. Such medical misconduct and
omissions may lead to cancellation of the license for the nurse. The nurse is required to undergo
different assessment and tests to rectify her charges and professional misconduct conducted by
her. The nurse will undergo assessment of clinical nursing skills which will testify her medical
and clinical nursing skills. The assessment will enable her to identify her medical knowledge and
information regarding her practice. The evaluation of basic medical administration will examine
administration skills and record keeping skills of the nurse. Further, the nurse is to provide two

satisfactory performances of the medical perceptions to satisfy the administration and evaluation
panel of the hospital. She is also required to offer with proof to defend her medical fitness and
practice of adequate medical functions.
Conclusion
From the above case study analysis, it has been established that medical practices require
effective administration and accurate practice of the duties. It has been analysed in the case study
the nurse lacked effective medical practices which hampered the medical practices and ancillary
departments of the hospital.
