The student utilizes Gibbs' reflective model to explore their learning experiences within the nursing course. The report details the application of evidence-based practices (EBP), the Roper-Logan-Tierney Model, and the Levett-Jones clinical reasoning cycle in providing patient care. The student reflects on their feelings, evaluates the effectiveness of these models, and analyzes their impact on clinical decision-making. The assignment emphasizes the importance of person-centered care, the development of critical thinking skills, and the integration of these models to improve patient outcomes. The conclusion summarizes the key learnings and includes an action plan for applying these models in future nursing practice.

Transition to Nursing
Introduction
In this assignment, reflection is being given on models and practices learned in nursing
course. Gibbs reflective model is being considered to explain all perspectives of learning by
nursing students. This study is including potential contribution of models and practices to
future progress of nursing students.
Description
Nursing is all about providing care to people and nursing students learn about care through
their courses. In this course, I am describing my learning regarding models of nursing that
will help me in future. I have learned that evidence-based practices (EBP) helps to evaluate
different methods of providing care to patients and in clinical reasoning. As opined by
Proctor et al. (2015), EBP allows reviewing best practices used by other healthcare
professionals and helps to make decision about the right practice for care giving. For
example, if a patient comes to emergency department, nurses can provide that patient primary
treatment based on their knowledge of EBP.
On another hand, Roper-Logan-Tierney Model has helped me to identify activities of daily
living such as, communication, breathing, maintenance of safe environment, eliminating,
consumption of food and drink, dressing and washing, sleeping, playing and working,
mobilization and controlling temperature of patient. I have learned that independence of
patient can be supported by considering this model. For example, nurses can provide safe
environment yo patients for make the person comfortable in dealing with physical condition.
I have understood that activities mentioned in this model can be used as a checklist for
patients to revert to their normal lifestyle. This model will help me in future to plan for care
giving to diverse population across a wide range of clinical settings.

The Levett Jones clinical reasoning cycle has been developed in order to help- healthcare
professionals regarding steps of providing care. I have learned that I need to follow eight
simple steps to provide the best care to patients. According to Dalton, Gee & Levett-Jones
(2015), this model has mentioned eight steps including consideration of situation of patient,
gathering of information, processing gathered information, identification of issue, goal
establishment, taking required action, assessment of outcome and reflecting on the process.
For example, if a patient comes with breathing problem, these eight steps must be followed
by me to provide best care and treatment to the patient. These steps help healthcare
professionals in nursing that are person-centered. On another hand, I have understood that
this model can help me in initiation of management of health.
Feelings
Existing models and practices have helped me to develop specific feelings for caregiving. I
have learned that I have to avoid thinking about myself while providing care to all kinds of
patients. Before knowing about EBP, I used to think that I need to make decision based on
my observation. However, after studying about EBP, I have felt that I must review previous
cases along with its outcomes in order to take appropriate decision. For example, I feel that I
must be calm while dealing with emergency cases as it can help me to take right decision.
On another hand, Roper-logan-Tierney model has made me feel that patient cannot move to
normal life instantly. I have realized that daily activities mentioned in this model are
important to support independence of patient. For example, this realization of mine can help
me to handle patient, who are taking long term medical support. However, Levett-Jones
model has helped me to develop positive feelings towards step by step care giving, I have
realized that I must identify issues and gather information about issue of a person. As opined
by van Mastrigt et al. (2016), after evaluating the information gathered and nurses can

provide the best care to patients. For example, my self-confidence has increases and I am able
to follow these steps in future cases of person centered care giving. Studies these models of
nursing will help me to provide the best care to patients in future and I think I will be able to
get a bright future.
Evaluation
Evidence-based nursing practice can help me to gather information about an individual and
designing of patient care can be given in future. As stated by Barker, Linsley & Kane (2016),
collection of evidence is a good practice in person-centered care that helps in gathering of
essential evidence regarding a patient. This model is very essential while providing care to a
person because it helps in collection of evidence. This is because person-centered nursing
care is totally based on needs of a patient. For example, I can gather knowledge about
different needs as well as priorities from collecting evidence.
In addition, I have also learned about Roper-Logan Tierney model that can help in finding
areas where nursing support is required. Different activities of living can be evaluated of a
patient that can help me to understand their needs. For example, it can be seen that several
times activities of living are misunderstood and design of patient care done wrongly. Hence,
this model can help me to assess different activities of a patient like breathing and
elimination. In addition, this model can help me to set a proper approach of care to an
individual. According to Holland & Jenkins (2019), this is strength of this model as it helps in
setting nursing approach in a clinical setup. However, frequent confusion arises in
understanding different activities at same time. This can be considered as a weakness of this
model that can create barrier.
I can use Levett-jones clinical reasoning cycle in order to gather different pieces of
evidence in healthcare practices. In future, this model can help to set different healthcare

priorities while providing person-centered care. For example, it can be stated that different
information needs to be collected before setting treatment goals for particular cases. This
evidence and information can be gathered with the help of this model. This model is essential
because it helps in proper identification of issues that a patient is facing. As mentioned by de
Moura et al. (2015), this can be done by gathering information from medical history and
identifying different physical or psychological problems. Hence, I can fulfill all needs of
patients during provision of care.
Analysis
It can be analyzed that EBP in nursing can be used in order to make proper decisions
regarding providing care. As suggested by Vikström et al. (2015), need of care, areas that
need to be given focus in treatment and ways of treatment can be designed by the help of this
approach or model. For example, while collecting basic information about a patient, this
model can be applied. Hence, proper information can be obtained. As stated by Gultas
(2017), decision-making process in a clinical setting must be done by the help of evidence.
However, for gathering proper information about a patient different activities need to be
monitored. This includes eating habits and breathing style, which can be done properly by the
help of Roper-Logan-Tierney model. Kogan, Wilber & Mosqueda (2016) have mentioned
that this can deepen my knowledge about different physiological activities of a patient and
different needs can be identified. I can implement this model while monitoring a patient in a
clinical setting. For example, this model can help me to support older patients with physical
injury in their speedy recovery.
While monitoring a patient and collecting information to design treatment approaches Levett
Jones model can be improvised. This can help me in total process from gathering cues to
taking action. As mentioned by Knaak, Mantler & Szeto (2017), clinical judgments can be

taken properly by the help of Levett jones model. For example, I can use this model to assist
doctors to identify issues of patients. Hence, in future, these models can be applied in
different ways that can help me to provide proper care to an individual according to their
needs.
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that nurses learn throughout their courses and
this learning helps them to provide the best care to patients in future. Consideration of EBP is
potent enough to help me to take appropriate decision in case of care giving. In this study, I
have mentioned that I have understood that the Roper-Logan-Tierney model can be used as
a checklist and nurses can help patients to understand that ensuring daily activities can help
them to recover quickly. The Levett model has helped me to understand best practice for
person-centered care. I must rely on these models and practices in order to provide the best
care to patients in future.
