Answer to question 1
Clinical research is very crucial for discovering new treatments and for the improvement of the
patient care system. In these cases, the research nurses have an in-depth knowledge on specific
areas of research and thus also play a key role in assuring patient safety, advocating patients
through their procedures and also helping and supporting efficient conduction of research work
(Nass, Levit, Gostin & Rule, 2019). Thus, registered nurses can use their knowledge of guided
research regarding different aspects in a healthcare setting, as often it is seen that the registered
nurses are given the responsibility to coordinate the day to day proceedings in hospitals (Epstein
& Turner, 2019).
In order to successfully implement their research-based knowledge in healthcare sectors, some of
the steps are mentioned below:
 The first step to implement research-based or evidence-based practices in the healthcare
sector, registered nurses are required to conduct researches efficiently and take proper
note of their findings (Black, Balneaves, Garossino, Puyat & Qian, 2015). Some of the
methods nurses can adopt for conducting their research are as follows –
o Research nurses can conduct surveys on various healthcare approaches or on the
main healthcare concerns of individual areas and seek to terminate or eradicate
the health issues.
o They also can use their expertise to help in the screening process for potential
patients and case study subjects.
 The main role played by the research nurses would be to promote education and
awareness among patients on the different diseases, their causes and symptoms as well as
their modes of transmission.

 By conducting effective research work, they can implement innovative methods and ideas
in order to generate new and useful information which might help understand diseases
better and also help effectively cure them.
 They are required to find out the research gaps of different articles regarding a certain
situation or issue and also help find the solution of these problems.
 Other than research, they show great deal of efficient working like prompt reporting of
different issues in the healthcare sector, implementing better methods to ensure improved
patient outcomes and also ensuring patient safety (Black, Balneaves, Garossino, Puyat &
Qian, 2015).
Thus, these steps taken by the registered nurses can help in maintaining low patient distress,
enable educating people and creating awareness about different diseases and how they are
transmitted, which guarantees a significant reduction in the occurrence of these diseases.
Answer to question 2
The quality improvement study chosen, after carefully assessing the different aspects of the
given clinical setup, is patient safety. In the healthcare sector, patient-doctor or patient-nurse
trust is very crucial and helps in improvement of the patient’s reception to the treatments, he is
receiving from the hospital (Hughes, 2008). The benchmark of this quality improvement study is
that patients, need to find the doctors and nurses approachable and believe that they are
sympathetic towards the patients and their condition. To ensure patient safety in the clinical
setting, the nurses can take the following steps (Steven, Magnusson, Smith & Pearson, 2014):

 The nurses should make sure that the patients are not abused or bullied while under the
care of a healthcare service. They should ensure no physical or mental harm is done to
them.
 They should take adequate, preventive measures to ensure that there is no occurrence of
nosocomial infections in the patients and that the right medications and right dosages are
prescribed to the patients.
 The nurses are known for their great interactive skills which automatically makes the
patients trust them. Thus, it has been seen that if the nurses remember the names of the
patients and can accurately identify them, it makes the patient’s feel safer, and makes
them trust the health providers more (Steven, Magnusson, Smith & Pearson, 2014).
Thus, it can be concluded that nurses play a huge role in ensuring the safety of patients in a
hospital setting. The nurses, via means of efficient communication have the power to make the
patients entrust them with their healthcare procedures.
