1CRITICAL REFLECTION
According to College of Nurses of Ontario (2011), Nursing as a profession requires the
skills of inter-professional and intra-professional abilities to deliver quality care and safety for
the patients. It is necessary to involve with various healthcare professionals working together to
achieve optimum levels of quality service and also interacting with several members of the same
profession to work in collaboration. Tanner’s clinical judgment model will be used to reflect on
the three factors of the module, which has four phases known as noticing, interpreting,
responding and reflecting.
The module focuses on three factors seen in a medical setting, which consists of a client,
nurse, and the environment. It supports nurses to make decisions that are completely related to
their intra-professional skills required for quality care of clients. The consultation amongst care
providers that collaborate for decision making regarding client care depends on the
interrelationship between a client, a nurse, and the environment. After noticing the 3 factors, the
interpretation is on the positive side of the module, responding to the nurse, client and the
environment is useful for quality care. To critically reflect on the three factors, it can be said that
this framework is necessary for a smooth flow of operation and to realize the inefficiency
occurring in the medical field.
The key learnings to be reflected upon is the emphasis on the relationship between a
client, a nurse, and the environment, and that suggests the importance of intra-professional and
inter-professional skills. The contributions and expectations of a health care team are the basis of
the utilization of nurses that increases teamwork and enhances client satisfaction.
