Reflection
As a nursing staff I have taken Placement in oncology Cancer ward where I have learned
different practices within the NMC code of conduct to provide delivery of healthcare services to
the patient with oncology cancer. For getting Placement in the oncology cancer ward, I have
learned different skills which provide me the opportunity to get selected for delivery of
healthcare services within oncology cancer ward. I have an understanding about different
challenges which need to be faced during providing delivery of healthcare services in the
oncology cancer ward along with some sacrifices. During my practice, I have learn different
skills and process which need to be follow during delivery of healthcare services in oncology
nursing ward. As a caregiver, I need to provide care to the cancer patient and need to delivering
first line of communication and coordinating with them throughout their cancer treatment
(Plummer, (2019)).
In this duration, I have performed number of duties. For providing healthcare treatment,
there is need to review the patient health history which can provide access and monitoring for
physical and emotional state of the patient. I also need to track a Pathology, Laboratory and
imaging studies. For providing chemotherapy, there is need to provide safely medication, and
fluid to the cancer patient and also need to collaborate with those patients doctor and other
healthcare professional related with treatment plan. As a nursing staff, there is also need to help
patient to understand their disease and related treatment plan. As a nursing staff, I have the duty
to provide the every information related with medical terminology and their information easily
and simply. There is also need to communicate with their doctor and other healthcare
professionals on the behalf of patient regarding their health situation and updates. As a nursing
staff I also helped the patient plan for managing different symptoms throughout their treatment
which allow me to provide effective delivery of services to the patient for health improvement
(Hopia, (2019)).
While providing healthcare facilities to the patient I have also learned to maintain code of
conduct by delivering proper healthcare services by following rules and regulation with
following ethics and values. This allowed me to face different challenges during providing health
care services to the patient related with oncology cancer. Oncology nurse need to keep track of
numerous detail of every patient throughout the day. There is no any chance of mistake because
a single mistake can adversely impact the patient's health and create critical situation. Due to

providing continuous care and deal with different stages and challenges create high difficulty for
nursing staff for properly providing effective care while delivering healthcare services. Nursing
staff experience different emotional and physical burnout. So, in such situation, there is also need
to take care of themself for providing better care to their patient. I have also learned to provide
enough care while patient need to get calm during difficult situation. This allows me to learn to
handle the critical situation effectively (Boyle, (2018)).
