Discussion Board Post
AI Summary
This discussion board post explores the nursing process, detailing its sequential steps: assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, emphasizing the significance of each phase in patient care. It presents a PICOT question framed to investigate the impact of regular exercise versus steroid use on asthma control in obese individuals over five years, including the population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and timeframe. The post references primary and secondary sources supporting the research question. Furthermore, it contrasts the Nursing & Allied Health Database with the Health & Medical Collection, highlighting their similarities and differences, such as the use of Boolean operators and the number of journals available. Finally, it includes a critique of a peer's PICOT question, identifying missing components and suggesting revisions to ensure a comprehensive research framework. The references provided support the discussion's core concepts and methodologies.

Main post
The nursing process normally follow a certain sequence of events. It begins with
assessment, diagnosis, outcome, planning, implementation and finally evaluation. Of each
of these steps have a unique importance or role. Assessment is the first step and its
significant in forming the basis of the care plan (Pérez Rivas et al., 2015). The second step is
diagnosis and according to studies, it plays a critical role in finding out the possible causes of
the health problem that the patient might be suffering from. The third stage is outcome and
it is the step that determines the course of nursing interventions. Planning is the other step
and it ensures that everything runs according to plan or as desired. Implementation is the
next step and it plays a critical in wellness of the patient. Once a certain nursing
implementation is done, there are high chances that the patient will feel much better.
Evaluation is the final step. It is important since it provides feedback on the nursing
interventions. It is the step that defines if the nursing process was done according to
standards or not.
My research question in PICOT format.
Among obese individuals suffering from asthma, does regular exercise enhance
asthma control compared to steroids in 5 years?
PICOT is an acronym for Population, intervention, comparison, outcome and
timeframe (Boswell & Cannon, 2018). In this statement, the population is obese individuals
with asthma. Intervention is regular exercise while comparison is steroids. The outcome is
improvement in asthma and finally, timeframe is five years.

Comparison of the Nursing & Allied Health Database and Health & Medical
Collection
A database is a collection of different materials or resources. In this case, the two
databases are similar in that both of them provide access to health-related journals.
However, the only difference is that the former database can be incorporated with Boolean
operator to refine the search unlike the second database. The Nursing and Allied Health
database also has a larger number of journals as compared to the Health and Medical
Collection.
Critique of PICOT question from a peer.
Hello McKinley Peterson,
I have seen your research question in PICOT format. The question is, why should blood
glucose be tested on pregnant women?
Document Page
PICOT is an acronym for Population, Intervention, comparison, outcome and finally time
frame. According to studies, a good research question should have all the above
components. However, I have realized that your statement is only having the population
which is pregnant women. You have not explained the interventions, neither have you
provided the comparison, the desired outcome and the time frame. I think you should
generally revise your PICOT statement and include all the above components.
