Purpose and Goals for pursing graduate study:
I want to enrol myself into a Doctor of Nursing Practice Program as I want to acquire
the required knowledge and expertise to render community welfare services. My primary
goals for pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice Program include the following:
 Acquire 2 years of nursing experience as Registered Nurse before applying for
Doctoral Program
 After that within 1 year enrol in a Doctoral Program
 Completion of Doctoral Nursing program within 4 years
 Post completion of Doctoral Program, being placed as a nursing faculty
The ultimate purpose of pursuing a Doctoral Program is to acquire expertise and enhance
skill set to be able to educate and lead a team of student nurses and equip them with
appropriate strategies to render efficient care services to the patients.
Aspiring goals and related outcomes:
Presently I am working as a Nurse Practitioner and have been working within a
geriatric care unit for almost three years. Throughout these years I have learnt the importance
of establishing a positive therapeutic relationship with patients and their family members to
achieve positive care outcome. However, I have witnessed that patience is extremely rare
among fresh graduate nurses and on account of lack of compassion and appropriate guidance
the quality of services provided to patients is extremely compromised. This accounts for the
reason why I want to pursue a Doctorate program so that I can acquire the knowledge and
appropriate expertise to guide nursing students in the correct direction and inculcate qualities
of patience, compassion and empathy in them so that the quality of care services offered by
them elevated patient satisfaction levels. I believe that a nurse must ideally possess qualities

of patient, compassion and empathy as these are the integral elements that help to establish a
positive therapeutic relationship with a patient and help acquire positive patient outcome.
Previous clinical experience:
My previous experience has been an incredible one where I have closely interacted
with the elderly and have come to terms with the psychological, social and physical health
factors that deteriorate the quality of life of the elderly. In addition to this, I have also
witnessed complaints of elder abuse within healthcare settings and I believe factors such as
improper training and poor patience level are responsible for such unprofessional demeanour
on the part of care professionals. Drawing on my professional experience and my interest to
serve humanity, I would like to enrol myself in a Doctoral Program of Nursing so that I can
positively contribute to service quality improvement through mentoring.
Future plans:
My future plans include working for the vulnerable population group such as the
immigrants and the indigenous community to improve their healthcare status and increase
their access to healthcare facilities for positive patient outcome.
Plan for Doctoral Project:
For my Doctoral Project, I intend to conduct a research on the health inequalities
experienced by the indigenous community members within the U.S and investigate the
factors that lead to poor access of healthcare facilities among the indigenous community
members. I believe my Doctoral project would help to identify the existing healthcare
disparity and help develop mitigation measures to address the identified issues.
