INTRODUCTION
Nursing project is perceived as unique body of work in which professional nurses, nurse
practitioners and so on involve to gain clinical experience (Glasper, 2017) (Knight, 2020).
Working in team or group project fosters creativity as well as learning, blends complementary
strengths, builds trust, teaches conflict resolution competences, stimulates healthy risk taking and
promotes wider sense of ownership.
Present assignment is prepared as reflective paper that demonstrates understanding about
team development, group roles and experience about working collaboratively on group project. It
covers team roles adopted, new insights addition to learning achieved in collaborative process as
well as the ways these might be applied in future practice.
MAIN BODY
Reflection on experience to work collaboratively on group project
Group project involves working of an individual with few classmate or colleagues to
complete a assignment or task (Abel and Carter-Templeton, 2020). In my nursing project, I was
engaged with a team to work collaborately. To develop the team for the project, Tuckman's
theory is preferred as it emphasises towards way wherein a team tackles task from initial team
formation throughout completion of project. Team development through the theory have defined
the ways members in the project have moved from forming, storming, norming and performing
stages for performing better. At same time, group process is communication pattern that is opted
by members in order to exchange information. It teaches capabilities and makes interaction
possible for group members so to begin sharing as well as communicating together. I worked in a
nursing project in team where I spend great deal of duration addition to energy setting to get
work completed. In order to reflect to my experience for collaborate work on the group project, I
have preferred Gibbs Reflective Model which a theoretical framework which provides structure
to learning from experience. The model is devised in the year 1988 by Graham Gibbs for
offering framework to people to examine experiences and analyse things which went well as well
as the one that did not went well. My experience in group project is as demonstrated by using
stages of Gibbs Reflective Model underneath:
Description of experience: Group project guides learners to develop host of capabilities
or skills which are increasingly significant in the professional world (Rosciano, Moran and

Waryold, 2020). I participated in a leadership group project that is nursing project in which I
worked with a team and performed various roles. In initial stage of the group project, I was more
concerned for my assignment addition to group process. Herein, I was provided leadership role
in which I have to inspire the group members for performing tasks promptly and delegate
activities to each member of nursing project. In this group project, I have experienced that I have
achieved my learning fastly while working in group and positive discussion of mistakes build an
influencing culture in the group. In this, I have used situational leadership theory so to adopt
variant leadership styles as per situation together with development level of team members. The
outcome of the situation that is working collaborately with others is completing of assignment on
time and learning new things from it.
Feelings and thought of experience: Prior I became part of the group project which is
nursing project, I analysed that completing work individually takes lot of time. But when I
became part of the group project, I felt that the
group learning experience helped me to learn more than what I could have learned my own.
Moreover, other people that are team members are also feeling great and happy as they have
improves their learning and build relationships. During the situation, I was thinking that no team
can gain success without a leader as team leader is essential for implementing vision of group,
devising tone for members, guiding all people and ensure that all their roles are fulfilled.
Effective leader ensures that morale of each member of group remain high as well as all
contribute efforts for performing well. During the project, as a leader I felt that group members
were shooting ideas and creative solutions. In this, I thought about significance of providing
opportunity to everyone and I learned to tackle people with different thoughts and made them
feel more motivated while they take challenging steps for persuading further.
Evaluation of experience: There were various things that went well and many thing
which went unwell in the group project (Sekarwinahyu and Et. Al., 2019). From my experience
in nurse project, it is evaluated that my learning went well as I have gained huge insights about
operations and activities that are necessary of a leader to carry out. Also, mutual accountability
as well as honest feedback were another things that went well as with the help of these, I have
tackled issues fastly that promoted collaboration with group members. Delegation of tasks as per
potential of each member, exchange of ideas and managing limited time in various activities
were the best things that I have gained in my experience. However, my communication for first

time with team members was the first thing that didn't well as I had no information about them
and meetings held virtually. Moreover, my decision making for submission of first assignment
also didn't went well as it creates conflict of interest that creates discouragement. There were
situations in which I felt pressurised wherein I lacked accountability which did not went well in
group project.
Analysis for making sense of situation: The entire group project went well because of
proper division of work to each member as per their potential (Ablin, 2018). I have experienced
that working collaborately results in focusing on practice area that matches my strengths. I also
analysed that my leadership roles and mutual understanding of each member that saved time in
achieving wonderful experience to complete the group project. Effective time management
addition to exchange of information have lead me to the stage. I searched with some literature on
team working and found two aspects which have guided me to gain insights about pertaining
conditions. One is Belbin's team role that suggested me that each member have some strengths
and weakness which brings them in team. Another is Group think that states that people in a
group raises various ideas that meets to thoughts of all.
Conclusion related to what is learned and the things that could have done
differently: From my experience, I have concluded that I have learned positively discussion
issues that fosters and builds positive culture within a team. From my experience in the group
project, I learned that mutual accountability addition to honest feedback are essential in group
project as they guides in tackling issues or complexities quickly which leads to encourage team
collaboration. I also gain knowledge about delegating work effectively, managing time in
different situations and using appropriate resources to process contribution in attaining group
goals.
In group project, there were certain things which could have been done by me in different
manner so to attain outstanding results (Kosheleva and Villaverde, 2018). I could have collected
information about team members so that communication with them can be done in more proper
aspects. Also, each team members could have given time to share something about themselves so
that they felt engaging with others and felt free for sharing ideas in meetings and discussion. I
can say that delegation can be done in more improvised manner through allowing each team
member to select topic for working as per their area of interest and their efforts would have been
appreciated through recognition and rewards.

Action Plan: There are certain strategies or tactics with the help of which I will be able
to deal with similar situation in more effective manner in coming period of time (Costello and
Smyth, 2017). Next time, I will communicate with team members face to face and will discuss
about their strengths, weaknesses and area of interest to that communication and delegation of
work will be done in better ways. Moreover, as a leader I will set dates and will share the same
with each member so that there will be no conflict of interest about submission of assignments
and it will encourage decision making.
In my leadership role in group work, I have faced certain complexities related to first
time interaction, conflict of interest and feeling pressurised for completion of tasks. In nursing
project, my strength as leader is that I managed time properly in various activities and allocated
working as per interest areas of each team member. However, ineffective communication and
improper planning of submission was my weaknesses in the group project. It have been analysed
that I had favourable impact on group process as all the working were achieved effectively and
promptly.
CONCLUSION
From the nursing project, it have been concluded that when group project are properly
structured then it results in reinforcing skills which are relevant to individual along with group
work that comprises breaking complex parts, managing time and refining understanding with
effective discussion and explanation. Gibbs reflective cycle is one of effective model to structure
learning that are attained from experiences.
