1. INTRODUCTION
In recent scenario, public are facing lot of issue related to their health and well-being so
Australian Commission on safety and quality in health care is responsible for making national
improvements in quality and safety in healthcare. So that better and more quick, safe services
can be rendered to patient for their health. Moreover, national safety and quality health services
standard has been developed with an objective to “ protect public from harm and enhance quality
of health services (Biggs, Haapala & Kurrle, (2019)). So, professional nurse plays an important
role in supporting and information related to treatment, procedure and many more aspects of care
provided to the patient.
Therefore from the various standard set by National safety and quality health services,
Partnership with consumers (Standard -2) has been selected for the study. This standard specify
that leaders of health services organization implement, maintain and develop system to support
partnership with consumers. So, the main intention of this standard is to create health services
that can able to satisfied consumers, patient as well as career needs.
The study has contained critically discussion related to quality and safety in Australian
healthcare system, identified clinical care activity central to NSQHS standard. Furthermore, it
has included information related to the way process and outcome of data will be collected and
analyses. At the same time what are the feedback for improvements ion clinical care for better
health of public living in society. It can be stated that the study related to the National safety and
quality health services is pursued as it helps in understanding what are the practices that can be
used by healthcare to delivered qualitative services to patients. The standard of partnership with
consumers has also helped in understanding the way active involvement of people will lead in
improving health services of Australia.

2. QUALITY AND SAFETY IN AUSTRALIAN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
As per perspective of federal Agency for healthcare, quality refers to doing right thing at
right time for right person so that best possible outcome can be gained. While safety can be
defined as preventions of all possible errors and adverse effects that can impact on health and
well-being of patient (NSQDMH Partnering with Consumers Standard, (2020). Therefore, it
can be illustrated that quality and safety is safe, patient centred and effective care provided to
patient so that its health issue can be easily resolved. Professional nurse needs to ensure that all

steps as well as actions has been taken in order to maintained safety and quality of care given to
patient (Ramalho & et.al., (2019). So it can be stated that it is crucial for Australian healthcare
systems to considered quality and safety while delivering services to patient. Such as:
1) Quality and safety are important consideration in Australian healthcare system
ï‚· The first and foremost reason that there are certain situation or adverse events that may
results in unsafe care which may further lead in dealt as well as harm to individual. So,
quality and safety helps healthcare professional to ensure that all precaution has been
taken while delivering service to patient.
ï‚· Maintaining healthcare quality and safety is also important as it contributes in reducing
and preventing errors, harm and risk associated to the patient. Thereby continuously
minimizing the adverse event as well as error for better care of patient or individual
living in society (Grol & Wensing, (2020).
ï‚· Another importance of maintaining quality and safety is that it contributes in improving
overall process of healthcare system for better care of patient. Thus. avoiding additional
cost by removing various errors, mistakes and failure included in the process of
delivering health care services (National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards,
(2020)) .
2) The way quality and safety will be addressed as part of core business of healthcare
organisation
There are different method as well as procedure such as setting specific goals, making
aware nurse about the key safety measure need to be taken are some of the method that can be
used by business of healthcare organization to ensure quality and safety for better outcome. So,
the way that are used by healthcare organization to addressed quality and safety can be illustrated
as follows:
Making use of monitoring technology: It is one of the best method that could be used by
healthcare organisation for health and safety of patient. In it the professional will make use of
technology to ensure that right procedure is provided to right patient so that their needs can be
fulfilled. Such as barcode system that helps in verification of patient medication and what are the
necessary steps that are taken to improve its safety. Bed alarms is also another method that notify
staff that patient has falls or is in problem thereby healthcare by making use of technology can
delivery safe and qualitative services to people (Sittig & et.al., (2020).

Promote a safe and health environment: Another ways that is used by healthcare organisation
is ensure that patient are provided safe and more healthy environment for their respective
treatment. For example: Regular washing of hands, cleaning the areas, verifying that medicines
are provided time to time so that patient can easily recover (Marks, (2019)). So, promoting safe
and healthy environment will contribute ensuring quality and safety of patient to maximum
extend.

services to group of individuals or community that influence their health status. So, various

clinical governance, applying of quality improvements systems. Partnering with patient for
their care and in context of organisation design and governance and health literacy are some
more clinical care activity pertaining to the standard.

Care activities are essential for clinical care improvements in relation to partnership with
customers as it helps in providing more efficient care to the patient. Likewise, clinical quality
improvement system is care activity that helps healthcare in planning, supporting carers, patients
and families. Clinical quality improvement system also contributes in providing better and
qualitative treatment to several patients for their health and well being. So, it is necessary as it
leads in engaging the patient itself in its treatment thereby yielding better outcome (Bombard &
et.al., (2018).
ï‚· This clinical activity focus on providing quality services to patient by having effective
operation, well designed process and trained staffs that have capabilities to delivered
qualitative services to patient.

ï‚· It contributes in designing and effective monitoring of various process thereby leading

Low quality care has adverse impact or has more risk associated as it lead in increasing
social and economy cost to the country.

health problems so it is estimated that trillions of dollars loss has to be beard.
ï‚· Poor quality healthcare services also increase burden of illness as people will facing more
health related issue due to poor treatment (Palumbo & Manna, (2018)).
ï‚· Therefore, it can be stated that low quality care leads in ineffective treatment and care of
patients thus impact on health of people living in society.

improve the quality of healthcare such as gathering of relevant data and analysing the patient
outcome. Healthcare professional through analysing patient outcome can find strategies related
to the way their health can be improved (Low quality healthcare is increasing the burden of
illness and health costs globally, (2020)). Second, approach that could be used by organisation is
improving access to care by number of individual so that they can get proper treatment in limited
time frame (Cooper & et.al., (2018)). Thirdly, healthcare organization in order to improve the
quality of services needs to continuous evaluate, monitor treatment for effective healthcare to
patient.

Process refers to several steps as well as procedure that are undertaken by healthcare
professional to delivered services to patient which is suffering from health issue. So it specific
about the way particular program, activities will be performed for specific outcome. On contrary
note outcome data specified about the way the results of care program can be evaluated and
measured. So for examples: the care activity that is health literary process specified about the

literate about their health so that they can take care of themselves and live better lifestyles.

the improvement as well as engagement of patient in their care.

There are numerous method that could be used to collect data such as conducting survey,
interview of patient to know whether they are provided with quality and safe environment or not.
Observation is another process that has been used to collect data, as in it various things has been
observe regarding the services, satisfaction and health condition of patient after treatment or
care. For analysing the data quantitative as well as qualitative method has been used so that
necessary information can be interpreted (McMurray & et.al., (2018). Qualitative method helps
in deep analysis of results or improvement in clinical care due to care activity. At the same time
for quantitative method, numerical are used to analysis and interpreted data and outcome related
to care activity that results in improvement in clinical care. So, the all these are method that are
used for process and outcome data for effective healthcare.
Feedback for improvement in clinical care
Healthcare organisation can make use of different care activities in order to improve
clinical care and health of individuals. Such as provide people with necessary resources, and
information about the way they can improve their overall health. At the same time it needs to
engage more and more patient in their care so that better results can be achieved. Setting goals
and planning regular strategies to achieve the same will helps healthcare organisation in ensuring
quality and safety while delivering services to patient (Braithwaite, (2018).

From the above report it can be concluded that with increasing number of health issue, it
is necessary for healthcare organization of Australia to undertaken steps related to safety and
quality. National safety and quality health service standard has specified about the way
healthcare can ensure safety of patient and delivered quality services so that they can live better
lifestyles. Moreover, it can be stated from above analysis that the standard helped in maintaining
