Nursing is one of the noblest professions which encompasses collaborative and
autonomous care of the individuals of all different ages, communities and groups irrespective of
their caste and background (Sadooghiasl, Izadi, Mohamadkhani Ghiasvand, Jahani & Nasiri,
2018). It includes health promotion, prevention of any illness and providing adequate care to the
individual suffering from any illness or disease. Since childhood, I want to be a nurse. To fulfil
my dreams, I started my carrier as a CAN nurse. However I noticed that CAN is not enough to
achieve my dreams and then I decided to continue with the RN-BSN program by which I will get
a chance to grow both professionally as well as personally.
Before RN-BSN Program
Before the program, I was not well aware of the roles and responsibility which is
required to be a registered nurse and its positive impact on the patient care. According to the
research conducted by Lavallee et al., (2016), to provide quality care to the patient, it is
important to assess the health condition of the patient which I was not fully aware of before the
Registered nurse- Bachelor or Nursing program. In addition to that, I was also unable to
formulate an appropriate care plan which is vital to speed the recovery process of the patient. As
per the study done by World Health Organization (2016), a small error in the medical practice
can lead to adverse health outcome of the patient. During the nursing practice, I came across
certain situations where I was not able to handle the situation effectively to deliver quality care to
the patient due to lack of adequate knowledge and clinical experience. Therefore, to imply a
professional and personal growth to my nursing career, I decided to go for a RN-BSN program
where I will be able to enhance my clinical knowledge and experience.

Life Long Learning
Lifelong learning is defined as the voluntary, ongoing and self-motivated pursuit of the
knowledge for either the professional and personal reasons (Saylor & Graber, 2016). Lifelong
learning in the case of nursing is an exception which is linked to the success of the nursing
students. My lifelong learning in nursing helped me in increasing knowledge and clinical
experience. Nursing research has helped me to remain updated with the current nursing practice
and its implication to provide proper treatment to the patient. With the help of Nursing Research,
I understood the roles and responsibility of the registered nurse and consequences if not done
properly. In addition to that, I will also be able to deliver current and updated healthcare
treatment to the patient after analyzing the health condition of the patient. My attitude and
perspective toward patient care has been changed, I became more eager to enhance my clinical
knowledge about the current research in the health care domain. With this knowledge, I can also
advocate my colleague as well as my patient about the current effective technologies.
Novice to Expert
Rendering to the research conducted by Fitzpatrick and Gripshover (2016), novice nurse
practitioner comes from diverse background as well as their experience and knowledge differs.
To provide effective and safe and appropriate care to the patient, it is important for the nurse to
have an intuitive grasp of each and every situations and medical incident, which can be done by
achieving fine clinical skills. It can be done by indulging themselves in nursing practice to gain
more clinical learning. With the aid of the nursing research, I am able to improve my clinical
skills to transform myself into the expert nurse. Initially when I started my clinical practice, I
was a novice nurse. As a novice nurse, I lacked confidence and self-esteem while providing care

to the patient. I noticed that, instead of having proper clinical knowledge, I was not able to
deliver quality care die to the lack of self-confidence. After completing the RN-BSN program,
my clinical knowledge has been increased which help me to become a professional nurse. In
addition to my clinical knowledge, my leadership skills has been also improved. I can formulate
accurate care plan for the patient suffering from any illness by observing the signs, symptoms
and diagnosis of the patient.
Along with that, from the RN-BSN program, I also get effective knowledge about the
ethical and legal rules that needs to be followed while treating a patient in order to avoid further
ethical and legal complications. This program also helped me to gain confidence to use my
clinical knowledge, which I can imply to provide safe and effective care to the patient.
Synthesis of Role Transition
According to the study piloted by Barnes (2015), transition of nurse from novice to the
expert nurse helps a nurse to become professionally more competent where they can develop
their knowledge and clinical practical skills. After completing the RN-BSN program, I came to
know about the effectiveness of evidence based care person-centered care and holistic care while
taking care of any patient. after the program, I realized that there were so many aspects which is
hindering my prelesional growth in the patient care before, however the program helped me to
overcome such barrier. I got to know about the safety procedure which must be followed during
patient care in order to avoid any chance of clinical error. Though, it was difficult for me in
coping with the transition period, the knowledge and skills gained during the program helped me
a lot.
Evaluation

After evaluating the experience and knowledge gained during the program, I could
clearly state that the program helped me to grow as a professional nurse. This program helped
me in enhancing my research skills which I can use further to gather more relevant information
during patient care. During the program, I got critiqued from my peers and the professors which
helped me to grasp the skills needed to be an expert nurse from the novice nurse. I would
recommend this program to everyone who wants to flourish as a professional nurse and can
provide safe and effective care to the patient.
