University Nursing Placement: NMBA Standards Reflection Report

NMBA STANDARD 1: THINKS CRITICALLY AND ANALYSE NURSING PRACTICE
During the end nursing placement, I have got opportunities to demonstrated NMBA
standard 1. Similar to my first placement, I always arrived at the work with proper dress code
and fulfil my duty within allocated working hours. While analysing the practice, I have
understood that I have demonstrated NMBA standard 1 by respecting the culture of a patient
who was aboriginal and incorporated family members to take the decision on behalf of the
patient. Another example of it where one patient refused to take medication, shower and personal
care. We both respected his choice and approached him nicely to involve in the situation.
NMBA STANDARD 2: ENGAGES IN THERAPEUTIC AND PROFESSIONAL
BOUNDARIES
During the end nursing placement, I have got opportunities to demonstrated NMBA
standard 2 by addressing the concern of the patient and involving patient in therapeutic
communication. For example, one of the patients was anxious during personal care as she
thought it is harmful. I and my supervisor introduced ourself to her and listen to her carefully to
reduce anxiety. I also maintained a professional boundary by respecting the confidentiality of
her.
NMBA 3: MAINTAIN THE CAPABILITY FOR PRACTICE
During the end nursing placement, I have got opportunities to demonstrated NMBA
standard 3 by providing information and educating the patient to enhance control over health.
For example, I and my supervisor encountered a patient who had diabetes and obese and she was
unaware of the exercises that can help her to reduce obesity. I provided information and provided
her with education regarding how exercise can help to reduce weight and manage diabetes.

Moreover, in order to improve professional practice, I aligned the learning outcome with
learning needs such as providing information and educating patient.
NMBA 4: COMPREHENSIVE CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT
During the end nursing placement, I have got opportunities to demonstrated NMBA
standard 4 by assessing the patients comprehensively. For example, in the clinical setting, I
assess vital sign and bgl without supervisor and my supervisor assessed me based on my
capability. Moreover, I have realised that I have demonstrated standard 4 when I have responded
to the important cue during falls assessment, skin assessment, Water-low assessment under the
direct supervision
NMBA 5: DEVELOPS A PLAN FOR NURSING PRACTICE
During the end nursing placement, I have got opportunities to demonstrated NMBA
standard 5. From second week of my placement, I take a work load of one patient, a plan for the
day and follow that plan for the whole day. The plan helps me to finish the task in time and it
helps me to remind my task. Even when I had a work load of one patient, supervisor assisted me
to do the things that is not in my scope of practice such as administer medication, assist shower,
also reporting is vital sign and Bgl to my supervisor.
NMBA STANDARD 6: PROVIDE SAFE, APPROPRIATE AND RESPONSIVE
QUALITY NURSE PRACTICE:
During the end nursing placement, I have got opportunities to demonstrated NMBA
standard 6 by providing care to patients with an infection while wearing personal protective
equipment. Moreover, to treat a patient with the UTI infection, I have monitoring the patients
and ensure the safe care provision by empathetic towards him.

NMBA STANDARD 7: EVALUATES OUTCOME TO INFORM NURSING PRACTICE
During the end nursing placement, I have got opportunities to demonstrated NMBA
standard 7 by questioning the patient and caregivers to confirm the level of understanding.
During the discharge, I have asked the client and his family member regarding the proper
strategy of fall prevention to ensure that sudden fall can be avoided at home.
