Nursing research is a methodical procedure of survey that utilizes appropriate strategies
to provide impartial, dependable solutions to queries about the nursing practice (LoBiondo-
Wood & Haber, 2017). Nurses do investigations to create the answers of different problems and
define the procedure, and may assess different methods for efficiency (Moule, Aveyard &
Goodman, 2016). Nurses utilize different evidences for the nursing practice for the assessment of
the patient’s health status, diagnose patient condition, create care strategies, evaluate mediations,
and monitor patient’s reactions (Boswell & Cannon, 2018).

In the field of nursing, clinicians require knowledge and skill for the evidence-based
practice. Their knowledge and skill vary reliant on their degree of education, experience level,
and interest. In this study article, nurse’s baseline and practice regarding post-education,
knowledge, skills and attitudes have been assessed. The article found that the online modules for
self-learning approaches were not effective in enhancing nurse’s skills and abilities for evidence-
based practice (Karvinen et al., 2017). However, the article concluded that involving evidence-
based practice into practice in an organization will require time and assistance from the leader
which will eventually develop and help in promoting safety of the patient, health outcomes and
satisfaction of the employees (Mollon et al., 2012).

Credibility
The authors and researchers of the following journal article have the requisite medical
and academic qualifications. There is no indication of any conflict of interest for the researchers
that could involve prejudice in the layout of the analysis or the interpretation of the findings.
Evidence for peer review of this research article as it has a sequential page number, volume
number and issue numeral (43(9)) is present in the reference and year of review (June 2009) is
also mentioned in the journal paper.
Design
The quantitative aspect of the analysis in the abstract section is clearly stated. A pre- and
post-survey concise model was used to evaluate the nurses ' skills. An alternative justification
was also given for the preference of model concerning the application of nurses ' knowledge and
skills for evidence-based care. The reliability of the instrumentation was defined and figures and
comparisons were provided. A comprehensive procedure is defined for using each instrument in
the measurement. The journal provides sufficient detail to determine the sample's
appropriateness and attributes. Optimal sample details and documents are given to ensure
adequate applicability.

Ethical Issues
Appropriate safety measures have been introduced to safeguard participants from any
possible harm. It is clearly stated that there was informed consent from the participants. When
vulnerable participants were included, the informed consent and research protocols were given
special attention. After the authorization by the institutional review board (IRB), data collection
was initiated. The packages of data collection included a written letter of approval, an EBPQ
sample, a statistical questionnaire, and a pre-addressed return packet. Steps were taken to protect
participant’s identity, confidentiality, and privacy. Participants could also send assessments via
internal mail if it was uncomfortable to use the collection box or if they felt privacy was
compromised. Participants have been recruited identified and equitably allocated to categories.

Human Rights
Participant security in health-related research has grown in a well-articulated legal
structure backed by legislative guidelines, treaties, and laws in increasing numbers of
jurisdictions (Amon, Baral, Beyrer & Kass, 2012). The ethical standards help guarantee that
authors and researchers are publicly accountable. Protection norms for human participants are
needed to ensure that publicly funded researchers are accountable to the public (Davies, 2019).

Institutional Review Board
Institutional Review Board (IRB) applies research ethics in reviewing and ensuring that
the approaches used for research are ethical. In the following study data is collected after the
approval from the institutional review board (Grady, 2015).
Problem Statement
Who does the problem affect? What are the boundaries of the problem? What are the
limitations of the research article? What was the timeframe of the research article? Was nursing
research article well-constructed in an appropriate way? Did the journal article utilize any
evidence-based literature older than 5-years of its publication?
Research Question
Are online modules effective for self-learning approaches in enhancing nurse’s skills and
abilities for evidence-based practice?
Purpose Statement
This article aims at analyzing the effectiveness of the online modules for self-learning
approaches in enhancing nurse’s skills and abilities for evidence-based practice. The report will
also analyze the current and post-education experience for patients, behaviors, and knowledge /
skills in training based on evidence.

Literature Review
The literature review is focused mainly on time-frame analyses of 2005-2011. The
literature review did not use any current literature. It is made clear the connection between the
current issue and the previous research. This contains all or most of the research studies relevant
to the research topic. The analysis can be linked directly to the research question as well as
indirectly. This is defined as the theoretical or conceptual structure. The review confirms the
study's significance.
Sampling Strategy
The sampling technique is the primary method selection bias is regulated by researchers.
Whether the study is qualitative or quantitative, the sampling strategy is essential. Participants
have been recruited identified and equitably allocated to categories. Participants are selected
through meetings of unit personnel, flyers posted, email alerts and newsletters from hospitals.
Reliability and Validity of Quantitative Research
In-house healthcare teachers created the compulsory online education system. The guide
had a review of evidence-based research, described training approaches supported by evidence,
and provided examples of evidence-based practice programs. The Clinical Efficiency and
Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) assessed clinical practice, behaviors, and
knowledge / skills relevant to evidence-based training (Houser & Oman, 2010).

How do the Results Inform EBP?
Translational research involves turning scientific findings into common treatments and
enhancing patient care. It was demonstrated through the report that digital self-learning programs
are not an effective technique of improving nurses ' abilities and knowledge / skills in evidence-
based care. Nonetheless, in terms of evidence-based learning, graduate-level education is
indicative for better practice, behavior and knowledge / skills.
Implications to Nursing Practice
Nurses are in a rare position to promote work transformation into action. For data
translation, there are two valuable skills: group research and trans-disciplinary actions. As staff
members are enhancing their level of competency, they should also be cheered to use
professional databases with critical appraisals of the literature, such as the Cochrane Library.
Future Recommendations
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is essential to ensure patient safety. Recent research
shows that nurses should be involved in a three-level system of teaching and learning evidence-
based medicine, including the need for integrated clinical practices in teaching approaches for
EBP (Horntvedt, Nordsteien, Fermann & Severinsson, 2018).
Potential Limitations
There have been several limitations discussed in the study. The pre- and post-surveys
were very much identical which became difficult for staff to understand due to which they had to

do both surveys. There was no evaluation of knowledge related to the online learning module
which made it difficult to govern whether the module was read and whether staff knowledge
enhanced after reading (Karvinen et al., 2017).
Conclusion
The article found out that the online modules for self-learning approaches were not
effective in enhancing nurse’s skills and abilities for evidence-based practice. It is a process that
requires time and effective leadership support and resources to integrate evidence-based practice
into an organization's culture. The advancement of proof-based training and knowledge / skills is
to improve clinical care, patient outcomes, and employee satisfaction. Knowledge comes only
from repeated experiences and clear educational experience based on evidence.
