Hello, this is (Please write your own name) responding to your post. It is commendable
that you have shared with us, some really interesting facts guided by suitable evidences. I
thought of responding to your post, as I consider upper respiratory infections to be the most
common form of infections that most people suffer from. And I am not an exception to that.
Your post gave some strong knowledge about viral respiratory infections, its etiology and the
risk factors. The post also gave an idea about the different strains of the influenza virus and soma
of the new strains of the influenza virus that are being discovered. However, you have also made
a point about why the study is important for the nursing students, which we can relate to our own
practice area.
Children and elderly people are the most susceptible to contract a respiratory tract
infection (Patria & Esposito, 2013). In my response, I have chosen children as the target group
for my post as I can see that my fellow friend has not shared much information regarding the
treatment, I would like to the focus on the interventions for the respiratory tract in children as
(RTIs) are the most common reason for the parents consulting with the health care professionals.
The article that I have chosen provides with a vivid description of the basic physiology and the
anatomy of the respiratory tract, along with red flags that would help to manage the necessary
arrangement. Furthermore, the recent research article provides a higher evidence of relevant data
about (RTI).
The article by Paul, Wilkinson and Routley, (2014), is a review paper supported by rich
level of recent references, containing a wide range of information about the treatment modalities.

The level of evidence of this article is IV. Furthermore, the credibility of the article has been
critically appraised by using the CASP checklist. The article has provided some useful
information about the community acquired pneumonia. According to Paul, Wilkinson and
Routley, (2014), the most important bacterium responsible for the symptoms are Streptococcus
pneumonia. The condition can be safely managed by the application of the fluids and antipyretics
along with the use of a safety net. While antibiotics are useful in treating bacterial infections, but
not in viral chest infections and indiscriminate use might increase the risk of the conditions like
allergy, diarrhea, yeast infection or nappy rash. Some of the prescribed antibiotics that can be
considered are the macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin or azithromycin. Childhood
vaccination against Haemophilus influenza type B and pneumococcal vaccines has been found to be
having some preventive action. The paper also helps to provide a wide range of auscultatory findings
of a range of clinical conditions like bronchiolitis, preschool viral wheeze, chronic lung diseases,
tonsillitis and otitis media (Paul, Wilkinson and Routley, 2014).
The knowledge gained from this article will be useful for the nursing students as, it
provides a sound knowledge regarding proper diagnostic techniques. This issue is important as
the health care professionals plays an important role in improving the vaccination regimen in
general by the provision of accurate information about the usefulness of using the vaccines.
