1NURSING SHORTAGES
Introduction
These days nursing is a rising culture in the country like the United States. With the
rising demands for nursing, the need also increases; however due to shortages of nurses, the
requirements are not being met. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN)
had taken up the challenge in grabbing the attention of educational societies, policy initiators,
organisations delivering nursing services and social media (Aacnnursing.org, 2020).
The reason behind Shortages of Registered Nurses
Shortages in faculty at the nursing schools and huge retirements of registered nurses
have contributed a lot towards the shortcoming of the Registered Nurses. According to a
report by AACN, the nursing schools in the United States are not able to enroll applicants
who have qualified the preliminary stages. The reason behind the cause stated that it had
happened due to unavailability of nursing faculties, shortages in areas to perform clinical
trials and due to budget constraints (Aacnnursing.org, 2020).
Moreover, another survey by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing
(NCSBN) had stated that most of the nursing professionals working are aged above 50 years
and thus shows a track, that within next 10 to 15 years the crisis for registered nurses are
going to increase (Buerhaus et al., 2017).
Efforts Addressing Nursing Shortages
Nursing institutions had implemented efforts by forming up strategic partnerships
with private support groups to enroll more candidates who had cleared the preliminary stages
and are enthusiastic about this professional field — the results have shown a clear increase in
faculties and clinical placement sites as well.
