Nursing skills
In my opinion, Nursing has become an important professional in the healthcare sector
and nurses play a key role in the patient care process. They spend more time with the
diseased person compare to opt her healthcare professionals. They perform multiple tasks
throughout their shift. Nurses are equipped with different clinical skills; however, they must
consider different other skills that are necessary to become an effective and experienced
nurse (Nicol et al., 2012). I have been providing my services in the cardiology department of
the nurse as a nurse leader. I have learned a lot about the essential skills in nursing and I think
every nurse must learn about using change theory, management skills, leadership, and
conflict management. change theory in nursing was developed by Kurt Lewin who was the
father of psychology. I think the planned change in nursing is necessary for a broad range of
reason such as implementing the solution for the problem, to alter or replacing the present
knowledge, skills attitude, system, policies, or processes that are essential for providing better
service to the patient (Treas & Wilkinson, 2013).
leadership and management skills have become an integral part of the nursing
profession. In my opinion, to bring a change in the healthcare organization manager must firs
recognized their strength and weaknesses related to leadership as it can greatly affect the
outcome of the change theory. It has been identified that the nurse's leadership ability,
effective communication, and teamwork play a key role in the planned change (Kim, 2018).
Nurse managers are skilled in leadership and communication skills, they are responsible for
guiding or supervising the nursing staff in the healthcare setting. they oversee how health
care is being provided to the patient. They male the decision related top management ad
budgetary decisions, set shift schedule, conduct meetings about safety concerns and
improvements of healthcare services. There are 5 different types of leadership styles in

nursing that I think every nurse must learn: transformational, Transactional, autocratic,
laissez-faire, and democratic (Timby, 2009).
To be an effective nurse leader or nurse manager one must learn about the strategies
and essential pf communication for patient care effectiveness. nurses must be an effective
listener so that they can understand the health condition of the patient and provide their
services accordingly. They must address the patient with empathy and respectfully. They
must have knowledge of cultures and ethical concerns. The nurse manager or nurse must
listen to the problems of their staff, and the patient. He or she must consider the ideas of
every nurse to implement the change in the setting. during my nurse course, I have taught
about these skills and strategies. However, I was not a very effective communicator and
leader (Koutoukidis & Stainton, 2016). My academic work helps me to implement theoretical
knowledge in nursing practice work. I have searched for different research articles related to
leadership, communication, change theory, and management. Throughout my nursing career,
I have used these skills and provided guidance to other new nurses about being effective
nursing and responding immediately in an emergency case. I have been showing some
communication, leadership and management skills to manage the nursing conflicts arises in
the setting.
