Profile
My name is Shreena Lamichhane, a resident of Artarmon, New South Wales. At
present, I am pursing my degree of Bachelor of Nursing from the Western Sydney University
Paramatta campus. Prior to this I have received a certificate III and certificate IV in aged care
services from accredited by the ‘Advanced college of Health’, a reputed institution in
Burwood, Sydney. In addition, I have also pursued PCL nursing from ‘Shree Medical and
Technical College’, Nepal. I have valuable work experience from my past, the most notable
one being the one gained by working for Pathways Sailors Bay Nursing home, NorthBridge,
Sydney. Apart from this I have also worked at College of Medical Health Sciences as a
registered nurse. At present I am working as an AIN in at Caroline Chisholm Aged care
Burns bay Road Lane cove West. I demonstrate the ability to care for the aged and disabled
patients under any clinical environment. My training as an aged care nurse has made me
competent to work with the physiotherapist to provide care for the bedridden elders. In future,
my goal would be to increase my professional skills and competencies by undertaking a CPD
plan.
I take pride in having effective communication skills that enable me to put forward
my views and opinions in a clear manner and get myself understood. Communication skills
enable a professional to avoid any possible conflict among team members. In the nursing
field, this is essential since nurses need to work in collaboration with other professionals for
enhancing patient outcomes. I have been praised by my seniors for such good communication
skills and I intend to motivate my juniors to learn effective communication skills for
delivering optimal quality health care.

Reflection:
This reflection is based on my experience while working at an aged care setting and
uses the Gibbs cycle as the model for reflection. An aged care home also needed some help as
the residents were suffering from influenza outbreak. The rate of this outbreak was
considerably high as compared to any other aged care centre. It is known that influenza is a
contagious disease and spreads from one person to another through nasal droplets and direct
personal contact. Upon carrying out an analysis of the situation, it was noted that the standard
preventive measures PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) was not used adequately. I had
failed to adhere to the guidelines for the same, leading to spread of the disease in a rapid
manner.
Upon understanding the importance of the matter, I felt guilty and ashamed of not
being adhering safe protective practices. I felt that I should engage in learning about the
importance of using PPE due to its importance in preventing contagious diseases. The
incident taught me an important lesson that I must be careful about my nursing practice.
Since a nurse is to deliver optimal quality care and act at the best interest of the patients, it is
desired that I use PPE at a regular basis.
One of the most important factors about nursing is the risk analysis and management
(Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au., 2016). The NMBA standard for practice for the nurses
states that a nurse should practice and maintain the safety guidelines and standards
(Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au., 2016) (Davies, 2012).
Reflecting on the incident has taught me that it is important for a nurse to understand
the implications of delivering care for patients in a safe and harmless manner. Reflective
practice ensures better care in future (Yoder-Wise, 2014). For my future, I would definitely

use PPE when working in the care facility. I would also research on the best nursing practices
to enhance my approaches (Spath, P. L. 2012).
