There a wide range of the nursing theories that is present. One of the main nursing
theories that are quite prominent and famous is the human caring theory. It came into the
existence in the year 1979 by Dr. Jean Watson, who was one of the most distinguished
professors at the University of Colorado, this theory evolved from her search for the
relationship between human caring and nursing. There were mainly 10 carative factors that
were identified by Dr Watson and he referred it to be the core of the nursing. The brand new
factors were regarded by Jean as the “Clinical Caritas Processes,” it is subjected to have a lot
of spiritual dimension with regards to the caring as well as love.

The entire nursing theory is mainly used to care for the patients on a day-to-day basis.
However, it can be also said that the nursing theory strengthens the practice by simply
generating a structure and a language that is common. This particular theory allows nurses
the practioners of the nursing to proclaim their values, belief’s, and other things that tend to
make them believe why they become caregivers. The human caring theory is based on the

Where does Sue fall on Benner's novice to expert continuum? Why?
Sue mainly falls on the Benner’s novice to expert continuum in is RN who has been
practicing for three years and typically works in labor and delivery falls under the competent
level as it mainly takes 2-3 years of experience in the similar working field for functioning in
the competent level. It has been stated that Sue have just started helping out a clinic that tends
to look after the diabetic OB patients so she falls under the Novice category because she is
the beginner in this segment (McKenna, Pajnkihar & Murphy, F2014).
How does Sue's place on the continuum impact her ability to provide quality care to these
patients?
It can be said that the Sue’s place with regards to her new job role affects a lot in
terms of her ability to provide good quality of care to these types of patients. She is just the
beginner or novice in this role as she had no prior experience in this particular situation in
which she is expected to perform or give her best. Sue lacks a certain amount of confidence
for demonstrating the safe practice and the requirement of the physical and verbal cues. She
is unable to provide the quality care that is expected from her at the present time but it can be
said that with the prolonged time she will be using her best judgment and care practices for
this type of patients.
What additional support do you think Sue may need?
As per my knowledge I think that Sue mainly needs knowledge in terms of dealing
with the diabetic OB patients because she is at present associated with a clinic that is dealing
with such patients. She has been associated with the delivery and labor so she only needs to
study management of diabetes during the pregnancy as it will act as an additional support for
her for treating the diabetic OB patients (Lillis and et al., 2010).

How would Sue's approach differ based on the length of time the patients have known about
their diagnosis? Why?
It can be said that Sue’s approach will be differing with regards to the length of time
the patients have known about their diagnoses. For example, there are 5 stages in the diabetes
and if the patients come to know at right time when exactly they need the treatment then it
will be will be quite easily for Sue to provide treatment or else if they come to know about
their diagnosis then it will be difficult for her to provide the same.

Does the theory of human caring embody your beliefs about the profession of nursing? Why?
The main origin of the human caring theory was the first work of Watson. The entire
nursing theory is mainly used to care for the patients on a day-to-day basis. However, it can
be also said that the nursing theory strengthens the practice by simply generating a structure
and a language that is common. This particular theory also suggests that the nursing care tend
to extend beyond the human contact and it mainly focuses on the patient’s soul to a great
extent. Throwing light on the above mentioned segment it can be said that the theory of the
human caring embody my beliefs about the entire profession of nursing because of some of
the factors. The human caring theory is based on the following principles: On the continuous
healing relationships the caring is mainly based, all the team members are noted as the
caregivers, safety is regarded as one of the topmost priority, caregivers tends to focus on the
best goals and interest of the patients. The theoretical concepts were derived and emerged
from, the personal/professional experiences; they were clinically inducted, empirically
grounded as well as combined with my philosophical, intellectual, and experiential
background of Watson. Furthermore, this theory has embodied my belief’s in nursing because
in the profession of Nursing the main philosophy tends to revolve around the science of

caring. The theory of human caring has arrived from the Watson’s quest for bringing dignity
and new meaning to the entire world of nursing as well as the patient care. The theory also
provided a huge amount of ethical philosophical foundation with regards to the deeply human
dimensions of nursing. The views in this theory were mainly highlighted by the commitment
of Watson to the professional role and mission of the nursing. There are some of the core
principles of the Theory of the Human Caring and these factors were also regarded as the
most important aspects of the caring in nursing without which the nurses do not have the
power to practice the profession of nursing. In concluding remarks I can say that caring is the
main element of nursing without which the entire profession holds no such value so the
theory of the human caring embody my belief about the entire profession of nursing in an
excellent manner (Watson & Woodward, 2010). The main principles of the nursing practice
simply indicate the fact that describing everyone from the nursing staff to the patients from
the patients to the nursing staffs who can expect from the nursing. There are some of the core
principles of the nursing such as:
- The nursing staffs and the nurses treat everyone in their care with a lot of humanity
and dignity as they understand the needs of the individuals.
- The nursing staff and the nurses manage the risk are quite vigilant about the risk and
they also help to keep everyone in a safe place in the places they tend to receive the
healthcare
- The nursing staff and the nurses have the up-to-date skills as well as knowledge and
skills and then using this things in line with the needs of each and every individual
who are held in their care
- It has been observed that the nursing staff and nurses often tend to lead by an
example, develop the staffs and the themselves for influencing the way is care is
given in manner that it is open and tends to respond to the needs of the individual.
