community nurses caring for Aurelia. The term professional values refer to the core beliefs
and standardised behaviour which influences our activities; it thus forms base of professional
groups in society. The community nurses work in different environmental settings and visit
places of people, teaching their parents about making improvements in their health condition.
Thus, they ensure providing them care for the longer-period and work with their discretion.
Aurelia, a 78-year-old lady is suffering from the problem of leg ulcers, and recently her left
leg ulcer has become inflamed and infected. Community nurses visit her for the dressing two
times in a week. Therefore, community nurses in case of Aurelia must be assured with all the
6Cs, such as commitment, courage, care, compassion, communication, and competence. The
components of 6Cs are vital in the profession of nursing, and every health professionals and
the nurse manager in the healthcare must work accordingly.
Nurses with high competence are required for Aurelia; they must develop understanding
about the work. To provide the best treatment to Aurelia, the community nurses are expected
to fulfil her physical and emotional needs, and in accordance to the care founded through the
current studies and evidences.
In order to become a nurse, one must develop effective competence, and acquire professional
qualities, a creditable character and appropriate skills to enhance their performance. A
patient is secured about their health condition, when they are supported by experienced and
skilled health professionals. It highlighted competence of nurse as they must have essential
skills, and knowledge to work, without need of supervision, focusing on dressing and safety
of Aurelia.
Nurse and patient are found to be involved in the relationship of being partners, wherein the
nurse advocates self-health, independence, and knowledge to attain care plan for the
treatment dependent on the goals of patient. Therefore, both, patients and nurses should
discuss with each other all the issues and plan accordingly. Nurses perform duty of providing
care and support to the patients, educating them to develop their knowledge to participate in
their treatment.
Two important values of empathy and compassion play a vital role in the nursing profession.
Compassion has different meanings, which is displayed by our actions, and the way patients
are treated and provided care, i.e. mainly by our words and body posture. Compassion is

showing an overpowering feeling which occurs by witnessing patients in distress. Due to the
problem of leg ulcers, Aurelia has been experiencing isolation from people. Thus, it is the
responsibility of the nurse, who is required to take charge of the patient, must be able to
identify the needs of patients in their own situation. Ethical behaviour with Aurelia, the nurse
can successfully makes patient feel satisfied after the treatment, and experience lesser pain in
both physical and emotional terms.
