Student instructions
Consider the following scenario and develop the proposal specified. You are encouraged to use your
creativity when developing your response.
Scenario
At the last staff meeting at the early childhood service where you work, the staff were told the
exciting news that the service has received a community grant. Many ideas about where to allocate
the money were suggested by staff as everyone excitedly discussed the options.
You put forward the view that the service should expand the range of creative activities available for
the children and suggested that some of the money be spent on a new multi-purpose, open-ended
activity area. The other staff are interested in your idea and want to see more details.
The director of the service has asked you to put together a proposal explaining and illustrating your
idea. She is particularly interested in creating something sustainable, using recycled materials where
possible, and that promotes these practices to the children in the service.
With this scenario in mind, create the kind of proposal that you might present to the service director.
Your proposal must include:
a) A list of three (3) behaviours that you have observed and evaluated in the children at the
service that supports the need for this activity area. Include the age and brief information
on the stage of development of these children. You can use examples from your workplace
or experience, or create fictional examples.
As all the children are distinct with each other, they exhibit different behaviour
types. During the stage of development of a child, there are many changes takes
place in their behaviour. Babies who are teething might bite their parents. At that
time, the baby tries to cope up with teeth development instead of trying to hurt
anyone. On the other hand, toddlers are started to understand that they are
independent from parents and beginning to express it. However, they have limited
skills of communication and may become frustrated when they are not able to
express their needs and wants adequately. The toddlers might throw or hit a
tantrum as the frustrated instead of showing true aggression. The behaviour of
child is changing in every stage of development.
1. Aggressive behaviour: this type of behaviour is normal among preschoolers
and toddlers. The aggressive behaviour in child might means throwing things when
they are frustrated like throwing a book when they get frustrated from homework or
it could lead to hit other people. The children typically act impulsively and become
aggressive when they don't know the way to handle their feelings in an appropriate
way. The aggression in child can take different forms like hitting, kicking, angry
tantrums, verbal attacks, cool headed bullying, attempt to control other people by
threat or violence etc. Aggression is a learnt behaviour which a children learn from

his or her surroundings like environment at home, in school etc. However, it must
decline over time as the children grow and develop and gain new skills. For
example: children sometimes start to behave aggressively in the school and could
hit other people when they are frustrated due to not having good surrounding at
home.
2. Lying behaviour: this behaviour is also common in the children. A child may lie
due to three main reasons including to avoid getting in trouble, to get attention as
well as to feel better regarding themselves. When the children grow they are able
to understand things. This is also a learnt behaviour as when a child sees others to
lie, like when they see their other friends to lie, they also started to lie their parents.
Apart from this, when children are scared of anything or if they think that the truth
might have adverse consequences, then in this situation, children lie to their
parents and other people. For example: When parents scream on their children for
their small mistakes then it creates a threat among children. And after that, when
they commit any mistake, then they do not admit it and start laying to their parents
due to threat as they think that if they tell the truth to their parents then their
parents may scream on them.
3. Temper tantrums: it is a normal behaviour of a 3-year-old children specially if
they are tired or hungry. This type of behaviour in children may be due to level of
stress in family like parental fighting, death in family etc. The children who are in
pain or are not well might also close to temper tantrums. The surroundings in which
a child grow highly impacts on their behaviour. If a child grows in positive
environment, then they tend to feel happy and always stay in good mood. On the
other hand, if the environment surrounding the child is not good or negative, then
this impacts on their behaviour like temper tantrums. When the children see their
parents fighting with each other or any other situation at home, then it impacts
negatively on their minds and this results in change in their behaviour.

b) A description of the activity area that you wish to create, including the range of open-
ended activities that you expect children will be able to perform (e.g. art, drama, music
etc.), and whether the activities will be indoor or outdoor.
In order to ensure proper growth and development of children, conducting creative
play activities for them is a very helpful step. Creative and open ended activities
can assist in promoting the love of learning in children. The day of child is ruled by
routine like get up, dressed, have breakfast, play, have lunch, play games, have
dinner, read story of and go to the bed, them repetition of same. During this, the
parents are emphasizing on teaching their child some important academic and

social skills such as learning numbers, sharing, learning alphabets and colors,
waiting their turn etc. While these skills are critical development of a children, it is
also important to promote creativity among them and support them in Foster their
imagination by open ended play as playing with no rules influence not only the
intellectual development of child but also maximize their yearning to learn. The
activity area which is wish to create in early childhood service include music and
dance and painting. Provide child with kid friendly instruments like dance, sing,
clap will help in making them happy. Arrange some music for the child help in let
them enjoy. When the music plays, the child will begin to dance on the music. it is
necessary to ensure that the teacher do not guide or direct them, and simply let
them take a lead as well as decide the way they want to interact with music. This
helps in development of child and they unable to grow and develop appropriately.
Apart from this, painting is one of the most effective way to promote creativity
among the children. As there are no rules in painting, child can dab, blend, swirl
and dot to their content of heart. Giving the children with freedom to use their
fingers, paint brush will certainly help in increasing their creative thinking skills and
they are able to grow and develop in an appropriate way. It is a good way to go
with flow of activity. a setup is provided to children where the painting colors are
available and a freedom is provided to them to use their finger, brush or stick to
paint so that it their creativity skills can be develop and enhance. These both are
the nice activities for children in terms of ensuring their appropriate growth and
development. These activities are expected to be performed by children.

children. Open ended play is the best opportunity to engage imagination of children
and improve their emotional and social intelligence. This play prioritizes creativity
and fun and present many benefits for intellectual growth and learning of children.
It enables children to express their imagination and creativity freely. It enables
them endless possibilities at the time of play. In open ended play, no rules are
there and no preset sequential guides and instructions for child to follow. So,
during that play, child have the freedom to make their decisions on their own and
participate fully in their imagination and creativity. It is very crucial for the
development of child as it helps them to practice their decision making and
leadership skills. These plays benefit the children through fostering crucial

colored pencils and paper is provided to child, they can draw as well as color
anything which their imagination desire. Apart from this, they can write their name

less afraid of their mistakes which encourage them to think creatively and try new
things. Open ended play materials enable children to express their creativity, make
choices as well as support their Independence. Brick toys are the best way to Hindi
children and open ended play. Baseplate sets and building bricks involves no
instructions on rules which allow children with freedom or Independence to make
