Introduction
The study depicting the share of nutrient availability in food items and the process of
its application on the human body is known as Nutrition. Nutrition is the science that helps in
determining the connection between diseases, diet, and health for effective treatment
(Who.int n.p.).
History of Nutrition
Antoine Lavoisier is considered to be the father of the science of Nutrition. The
conception of Healing with the help of nutrition and food was discovered by Antoine
Lavoisier during the period of 400 B.C. Antoine was a Greek physician Hippocrates, who
stated, ‘Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.’ The recognition of the
impact of health, mind, and body for influencing the health of the body was facilitated during
that period.
Evolution of the conception of Nutrition
The science of Nutrition has evolved with medical development and with the
recognition of food and diet as significant factors. During the evolution of the significant
components of food, other elements such as nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen were
categorized and were linked with healthcare. Although there has been evident progress in
accomplishing the goals regarding malnutrition and hunger, a directed focus is required in the
field of addressing public health and nutrition challenges (Greger n.p.). In 21st century, the
conception of nutrition majorly revolves around the responsibility of addressing the
challenges like, undernourishment in the developing countries, Anaemia during the time or
phase of infancy, which is elevated by the under-nutrition of the mothers, obesity amongst
children and diverted focus of the population in developing countries towards infectious
diseases and not on the diet-related concerns. The nurses and nutritionists encounter the
issues of nutrition in numerous cases but it is the most significant constituent of responding to

obesity, food allergies, and clinical problems. Intake of a nutrition-based diet can be the
primary step for healthcare and a healthy lifestyle. Physical health should be combined with a
nutrition-rich diet for reducing the potential risk for chronic diseases.
Personal Reflection
The topic of nutrition plays a significant role in my life, which has developed with an
understanding of the significance of a nutritional diet. Knowledge about nutrition can respond
to various diseases, thereby contributing to the attainment of economic goals. I was interested
in learning about the challenges experienced by developing countries. The topic became
significant for me when I realized the impact of food and diet over the productivity of any
population, which eliminated the misconception of the role of medicine (“Nutrition”). After
learning about the conception, I have not shifted my position or determination of developing
knowledge myself and spreading awareness amongst communities. The bridge between the
topic and my life has become the motive of making communities aware of the significance of
nutritional diet.
According to the report of The New York Times, the initiative of improving the
nutrition concentration in the diets of America can become the reason for health care
problems. According to the report, nutrition is a complex composed compound that can affect
the weight of the individuals (Nytimes.com n.p.). According to AAFP (American Academy
of Family Physicians, the focus of the healthcare facilities should be directed towards the
accessibility to healthy nutrition with the inclusion of numerous options with nutritional
dietary offerings in the places like in vending machines (AAFP.org n.p.)
I have witnessed this topic in various articles, both offline and online, and have
watched the recommended videos on health and nutrition. The growing knowledge about the
topic led to my inquisition of learning more about its evolution path and challenges. I have
