INTRODUCTION
Organisational behaviour means knowing behaviour of the individuals within premises.
Somehow, OB is a study of knowledge and thus how people behave in a company. It can also be
defined as understanding , predicting human behaviour individually or in group within the
premises. The project report is based on BBC. Thus, company stands for “BRITISH
BROADCASTING CORPORATION”, it is a public service firm. This entity provides many
services like it has their own video games, news channels and produced many films too
(AlNasseri. and Aulin,2016). Organisation was founded by JOHN REITH in year approx.(1922.)
united kingdom. Report will discuss about cultural typology, affect of power and politics on
behaviour, motivation theories and techniques, level of motivation, type of teams, effectiveness
of teams, main barriers in effective performance, concept /theory. All these parts is being
described in the project report, even BBC is among the top ranking companies of UK.
TASK 1
P1(a) Earlier organisational culture and culture typology within organisation.
The organisation is a place where individuals come together to work for a common goals.
Each and every person is having different culture from he/she belongs too (Suppiah and Singh
Sandhu, 2011). Its hard to put them together so that they can work for common goals, but it is
essential for employees to adjust themselves according company and should enjoy their work
and can have a stress free life.
There are different culture within the organisation they are:
Power: In a company there are few employees who is having power to take decisions
according to requirement. Somewhere, they are the most important people of company at
workplace who takes major decisions for work related things. Employees are working at lower
level they are not having authority to take part in decisions or to share their views for betterment.
People has to follow the orders of superior.
Task culture: In organisations people are divided according to their interest and
specialization, so that they can put into one team for the effectiveness in the work part. In which
each member has to contribute equally to accomplish the task.
Person culture: In organisation follow the person culture. This means a person is not
connected with the company. They do not think for the success of firm. But they think for

themselves (Kitchin, 2017). Person comes to work to have money, they eventually not get
attached with the organisation. It has to taken care that firm comes first than anything else.
Role culture: In this part the employees receive responsibility and roles according to
their specialization. With such thing they thought what best they can do fro the firm. Thus power
comes always with roles and responsibility in companies in such work culture.
The different typology has mark on organisation, even they work according to behaviour of
people, they usually make teams according to the educational qualification etc.
P1 (b). Analyse culture, power and politics affected behaviour
In organisation, culture, power and politics has played their roles in a higher manner
which has affected the behaviour of the employees in a company. In every firm each individual
person belongs to a different culture, and they always come in the eyes of senior decision
makers. They usually make a team of those who are having a same educational qualification and
having same interest and specialization (Burrell and Morgan, 2017). So that they can perform in
better manner because they can understand their team mates in a very effective manner. Each
member has to provide their competencies in completing the projects. Politics by senior
managers in making decisions plays a effective role they make against employees working in
firm. They give roles and responsibilities to those who are not able to manage such powers.
Organisational power, politics and culture influences day to day operations of offices and they
does govern the atmosphere within organisation. The amount of impact a power and politics is
having on workplace, it directly reflects the organisation culture in the way of formally and
informally both. Somehow the tasks are divided, grouped and coordinated. There are six
elements who design a organisational structure. Those are departmentalization, spans of control,
chain of command, work specialization, central and decentralization. These components has a
direct reflection on the power, politics and culture.
All these scenario affects the culture of organisation in a great manner. Power and
politics are the main reason of not getting effective work by people in company. Employees has
to work according the work assigned they are not allowed to take part in decisions making or
giving their views. As such people does not get attached with the firm they work fro many not
for success of company (Frølich, Kalpazidou and Rosa, 2010). These three things has affected
the behaviour of organisation in bad manner to overcome these criteria of problem a team is
made which works on temporary basis and solve problems and they dissolve.

TASK 2
P2(a) Content and Theories of Motivation
In organisation it is required to know that the things are there which motivates employees in a
great manner. Motivated people work for organisational success, they increase their work
efficiency individually with the organisation (del Mar Alonso-Almeida, and Rodríguez-Antón,
2011). The effectiveness of people make a firm to work harder and to complete their work within
time span and achieve targets.
Process theories has a great effect on employees, some of the process theories of motivation are
as follows:
Equity theory: This theory of motivation says that each and every employee is having a
level of performance in firm. They seek that they are doing better than their colleagues or not, if
they are working effectively than they are going to receive the rewards and they come on less
effectiveness than employee work hard to get that reward in their hands (Russo, Tomei,
Linhares, and Santos, 2013). They adjust their level of performance up or down by taking few
measures to improve those. Somehow managers need to seen that rewards of employee should be
done on equal basis and fair if inequality is there that immediately adjusted.
Illustration 1: Equity theory
Source: Vicky, 2017
Expectancy theory: In this theory motivation this is partly taken as decision making process for
the better outcome of performance by people. Organisation expect from employees to perform
better according to their set standards. People work hard to receive the rewards and they increase

their efficiency and provide effectiveness in there performance. Somewhere, it highlights process
and user choice of work. According to the efficiency of employee rewards are provided to them.
Porter-Lawler theory: This theory of motivation is also based on expectancy theory.
Thus it is important as it helps to explain why each theories have a contribution and to make
serious limitations (Russo, Tomei, Linhares, and Santos, 2013). It is suggested that satisfaction
is there by performance on job, rather than job satisfaction leading to performance.
These theory has a great impact on motivation level of employees. These theories has affect on
effectiveness in the performance of people.
P2(b) Motivational technique helps in improving effectiveness
Techniques help in increasing the motivation of employees in perfect manner. Increasing
motivation of person helps them to work in right direction for organisation.
Some of techniques which helps in improving motivation of employee are:
positive environment: This helps in motivating employees to work in great manner.
Having a environment where ideas can be shared which help employees to perform their job
well. Positive environment helps the person to work effectively. When lower level have
problems than it is required to be there to solve the problems of them (Dowty and Wallace,
2010). Ignoring them will lead dissatisfaction and helping them will lead to effective work.
Set goals: The companies has a responsibility to improve performance of employees for
such thing they set goals for their performance, setting standards in performance makes
employees to work harder and to attain their performance goals . Comparing actual effectiveness
with standard will make to know where the performance was lack in terms of performing a job.
Goals should be achievable and set according to increase the efficiency of organisation as well.
Provide incentives: when a person or the work force is working effectively in
organisation than its a duty of senior managers to provide them incentives for their performance.
Incentives for job effects person to work more harder, rewards motivates employees to work
accordingly and attain their objectives .
Recognize achievements: when a employee perform better in a organisation than
company has to do something for the people working hard. A firm can recognize their
achievements by giving awards like employee of the month, photo on cover page of their
magazine and providing certificates helps organisation to make attached a employee with them.

Providing enrichment: when a people is not be able to work effectively in organisation
than company can organise a training program for them or can send them to seminars or
workshops (Burrell and Morgan, 2017). This type steps from firm helps to reduce the employee
turnover and makes people to work there for longer period and in effective way.
P2(c) Improvement in level of motivation to achieve goals
Motivation of employees is required in the company so that the organisation can attain its
goals and objectives. BBC gives a lot attention in motivating their employees in great manner.
The firm knows that effectiveness is required by each people within premises (Hilton, 2017).
Their are ways to improve the level of motivation of employees in a perfect manner. Some of
those key things to increase level of motivation are as follows:
Create a mission: The company should have mission and those are made cleared to
employee and manager. Having a worthwhile goals, always motivates you to achieve the desired
goals, reasonable plan helps you to attain a progress in your performance too. If a firm
communicates its goals and objectives in a right manner than the employees too give their hands
in perfect manner to achieve those goals within span of period.
Personal growth: Organisation should have such goals which allow the person to
increase their efficiency with companies effectiveness. By giving responsibilities to employees
helps them to work hard and in a effective manner too. It is required by organisation to know the
personal goals and interests, sop that they can make such goals which allow each and every
person to attain their objectives in efficient manner (LA, 2013). Somewhere when employees
get demotivated, know the things and understand with which motivational theory they will get
motivated to perform better.
Award Recognition: BBC always see what things are there which will improve the
performance of employees. If people are performing in a perfect manner and effectively than it a
responsibility of the firm to provide rewards to them, which will help them to increase their
motivation to work hard.
Listen to their comments and complaints: listening to complaints and comments of
employees makes them feel that they are a part of firm. Ignoring them leads to lack of
communication between person and senior managers, employees get motivated if their problems
are solved within the time, motivation is required by every employee to work in right direction
and in perfect manner.

TASK 3
P3(a) explain different type of teams and why they are important
In organisation different teams are very important to work effectively, having such teams leads
to work in coordination and it helps to reduce the points of conflicts and problems (Adeniji,
2011). They have responsibilities to work accordingly to their jobs assign, these teams work for
both individual and organisational to increase their performance level. The teams which are
important for organisation are as follows:
Functional team: This team is available at every department, functional team work as
one to complete their task in effective manner. These teams make coordination among the
different departments in company. Functional team has their own responsibility to work, and
they work harder for success of firm.
problem solving team: Such teams are made in organisation particularly to solve the
problems of every department. These teams are consist of those members who are having same
interest and specialization. They solve issues of different employees, these teams are temporary
in nature and get dissolved when work or solution is provided to problem. This team is consist of
5 to 6 people.
virtual team: People who get separated by distance and they get connected through
internet. This team solves problem online of the customers, it is required when employees are in
distance and wants to connect for some work. This team comes together to work for same reason,
virtual team is consist of 4 to 6 people.
project team: This team is created to complete a specific project. Members consist of 5
to 6 people, such team is also temporary basis. They work together and dissolve when the work
is completed, such teams has a common goal to work. The team is having same education
qualification or interest.
Although, these teams help organisation to work harder and to achieve goals within the
time period specified. Achieving goals in company helps employee to have there space too.
P3(b) What makes an effective team
There few things which help in making an effective team according to Tuckman's theory.
This step is taken by most of the companies like BBC to gain in performance level. Some of the
steps helps in making a effective team are as follows:
6
Document Page
Forming: this step has new teammates who are excited to work with new mates and
some are their who don't understand what kind of work a team will do. As a organisation it is a
responsibility to make them introduce with each other so that they can work in smoother way.
Storming: This the second stage of after forming in such step they start pushing
boundaries formed by forming stage. In a step the chances of conflict is high where natural
working style is there. The reason could be not clear understanding of roles and responsibilities
or not having a work direction.
Norming: In this step people start appreciating their colleagues work style, they help,
each other whenever it is required. People make stronger commitment to goals, and organisation
can see a great progress towards it.
Performing: at this stage hard work speaks, if any member is getting out from the team
than it will not affect the working criteria of team members as they know each other and they
divide the work accordingly. So no place for disputes and friction.
Adjourning: eventually this stage is something where project team are not for the fixes
period they are for temporary basis and they dissolve after the work is completed. It becomes
difficult for those who make relationship with their colleagues.
TASK 4
P4(a)Appropriate concept or theory to improve productivity
According to path goal theory, the leaders should provide clear direction, sets high goals
and support his employees in problems. Such as, this provides them a belief of satisfaction and
they work as productive team (Solomon, Russell-Bennett, and Previte, 2013). The employees
believes that their will be fast and immediate problem will be solved of there than they think for
getting support in near future in effective manner.
Some of the leadership styles of path goals are as follows:
Achievement leadership: In this theory the senior level set a goals for employees and
management has a high level of confidence on the people working for them just because their
abilities and skills to perform those tasks in perfect manner. If achievement is done by employees
than the organisation provides rewards to people for their effective work.

Directive leadership: This type of leadership is when the employee is doing work in wrong
direction than direction is provided to people for right work consideration. Specific advice and
tasks are assigned to individuals or a group.
Participative leadership: in this the information is shared among the managers and the
groups to gather input for goal achievement. Participation should be there for each and every one
in organisation in attaining goals in effective manner (Dowty, and Wallace, 2010). Without the
participation of members of company than it will lead to dissatisfaction of firm from employees,
and they will make them to participate in right direction.
Supportive leadership: in this leadership the upper level management support the lower
level in their working. Senior manager do support each and every employee in their work so that
they can work in right direction, problems of people is also solved by them in perfect manner and
immediately too.
P4(b) Main barriers to effective performance
In organisation there are so many barriers which create a hurdle to give a effective
performance by employees. Different people has many cultures, so it becomes difficult for them
to understand the kind of work they going to do in organisation. Each and every individual has
its on beliefs and interest which creates a problem of conflict in BBC (Zaghini, Biagioli, Fida,
and Sili,2017). Another major issue is organisational structure of the company. The few main
barriers which are having main barriers to effective performance are as follows:
Not proper communication: In organisation it is required to have a proper
communication on each level so that company can achieve its goals in effective manner. The
flow of communication flows in both direction that is vertical and horizontal too. Lack of
communication in both these direction will lead to ineffective or working. Proper flow or
communication is required in firm so that each and every one can work in coordination. It is
required to proper communicate the right message to right people on time.
Lack of training: This problem is there with every company not only BBC. Lack of
training of employees leads to barrier in effective working too. It is require to provide a actual
training to the employees in right direction. Organisation can send their people to seminar and
workshops to take a knowledge of doing work in different manner and in effective manner with
efficiency. A proper training of employees makes their work in perfect manner and utilisation of
available resources in correct form.
8
Document Page
Ineffective leadership: Leadership should be done in right manner by the senior levels.
Having a not appropriate leadership leads to bad working criteria by employees, they will not
work up to their capabilities, leaders should let them know the right direction of working and
support them in wrong working direction. BBC is having a bad leaders in their company who
cannot motivate a individual person to work effectively.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been stated that the BBC is having many barriers in their
work related criteria. The report tells about that there are many problems created by politics,
culture and power on the behaviour of organisation and it is required to solve such conflicts
within the company. The performance of employees get affected with many hurdles in
organisation, all such things are included in this report. BBC is one of the top raking companies
in UK which is having a lot many problems and they are working over those to reduce those in
perfect manner.
