Project
AI Summary
This project is a social psychology analysis based on interviews, exploring themes of social influence, obedience, and compliance within a community. The project begins with a research question focused on how shared social identity can overrule obedience and compliance in response to authoritative demands. The methodology involves conducting and transcribing two interviews, followed by a thematic analysis of the interview data. Key themes identified include societal norms, cognitive dissonance, social stratification and class conflict, experiences within the college environment, family dynamics, and social cohesion. The analysis examines how these factors influence self-identification and behavioral traits, drawing on concepts like conformity, social hierarchy, and the impact of social and economic disparities. The findings highlight the interplay between individual experiences and broader societal structures, emphasizing the importance of social identity in shaping individual responses to authority and social pressures. The project also explores potential solutions to the identified social conflicts, such as strengthening student unions and community support forums to address issues of inequality and promote equity.

Question 1: How would speak of the society that you live in?
Response: ‘The society is stringent with its norms and I have
noticed different classes and subclasses of society only acting to
exist in perfect harmony with other. The elders and the seniors ac
that they know everything and tries to control the young adults in
their own manner and according to their will.’
Question 2: How do you feel about the residence you have been
born and bought up?
Response – ‘Loving, caring and affectionate. But my parents act
rude sometimes with me and fight with each other just like other
families living here in the residence. The residence I grew up in is
comfortable and very supportive. My parents helped me take the
urgent decisions of life right from my childhood. My friends in the
community has been very kind to me but not the external society
that exists around.’
Question 3: What would happen if you grow up in a different
part of the city?
Response – ‘Life would have been better, may be but I still wanted
my family to be my family. I mean if I grew up in those high art

areas and amongst people who are highly cultivated – I guess I wi
find more luxury and leisure in life which in a sense is nice but I
will also loose the sense of humanity towards others. I will lack
compassion just like them’
Question 4: How is the scenario of the college you are
currently attending?
Response – ‘I like the seminars, the workshops that are regularly
arranged by the college authorities but the disparity that exists
amongst the teachers and the students has to be checked and the
education must be more student centered than teacher centered.
The teachers are boring, the coursework is tough but the project
works are very interesting for it is when we, the friends can spend
the most time together, while studying and make a joint effort
towards a common goal which is very exciting.’
Question 5: What do you support and do not support in
college?
Response – ‘as I said, the project works and the sport day and the
annual function day where we it is all about the students and the
teachers do not have much scope to interfere in our lives like they
do in rest of the year. I support the student culture in our college
who believe in more bond, compassion and unity amongst the

student and I do not support the teachers who come to teach us
from upper classes of the society who lack the very empathy while
teaching us’
Question 6: How do you feel is the exact nature of the
problem?
Response – I guess it is lack of empathy, social disparity,
economic gap and cognitive disparity between us and them.
Disparity, hypocrisy and inequality in other words – that is our
social and academic environment scenario. The problem is simple
they teachers are not rational when they evaluate us and they tr
to oppress our happiness, our lives and our every moment of fresh
air. The problem is every deeper when we go visit other parts of
the city where the more urban and privileged family look at us as
misfits and like we should not be allowed read in their affluent
colleges for we are poor and needy.’
Question 7: What choice would you have made if you read in
a more sophisticated college?
Response – ‘I guess, given the background we come from, we and
our families will be treated in a more ill manner there.’
Question 8: How will you go about solving the problem? ‘

Response – ‘For the college based student- professor conflict
where we students feel oppressed – we can make the student unio
stronger. For the class and social conflict - by starting a communit
support forum and extending our rights as human being as much
we should be receiving so that there is not disparity with the so
called sophisticated people living in the so called higher lands of
the city. I think we should have more support group formed of
members living in this part of the society. I believe as students, it
is important to start a group by ourselves and we can run the
campaign on promotion of equity, humanity and good regard for
all across the city.’
