Executive Summary
The primary purpose of the below paper is to give a proper idea about the disease
Obesity and its causing factors among the children suffering developmental as well
as intellectual disorder. It critically analysis an article based on the issue. The
condition is severe all over the world and it is increasing day by day. The care and
planning treatment of this patient is different in respect to the environment of living,
diet, nutrition as well as handling them with efficacy. Telenursing is a broad approach
and one of the beneficial techniques in preventing this scenario. However, it has few
restrictions to use. Lastly, the paper discusses a few plans for caring for children
facing obesity.

Introduction
Obesity is a severe medical condition that leads to an excessive accumulation
of fat within the body resulting in an overweighted condition. The factors for causing
obesity are many, and these are- inappropriate diets, defect in genes, lack of
physical exercises, overuse of medications, and even environmental factors. Obesity
is widespread among the children which physical disabilities and mental illness due
to a defect in locomotion. Nurses play an essential role in reducing this issue by
providing adequate and appropriate care. The purpose of the below discussion is to
critically analyze an article on the topic of action in obesity amongst the adolescence
with rational and growing disabilities and the role of nurses to provide care and
development (Bennett et al., 2017).
Objective
The objective of the paper is to focus on the key issues causing obesity
among children with intellectual disabilities and growth along with curing by
telecommunication. (Bennett et al., 2017).
Review of the issue
Obesity is a severe concern in the world. It is a complex medical condition
with a lot of complications. The factors can be inherited genes, unhealthy choice of
life, and lack of physical activities. However, it is seen that children with physical
disabilities face this problem at an excessively high rate and few suggestions have
been delivered. They also accompany by juvenile diabetes, depression, anxiety and
even consumptions of psychotic drugs. Previous researchers have found that family

care was one of the main approaches to treat these patients, such as behavior
alteration, correct diet, education, physical actions. It has also been suggested that
change in the behaviour provides an active step in weight consequences. The
situation is complicated and challenging for nurses to provide care and maintaining
healthy body weight. The issue needs much attention in care and treatment with
these patients as few steps shreds of evidence have been submitted.
Research Representation
Title of the chosen paper- Treatment of Obesity among Youth with intellectual and
developmental disabilities: An Emerging Role for Telenursing.
Authors Credentials- Elizabeth Anne Bennett (Duquesne University, Pittsburgh,
PA, USA) Rachel Pearl Kolko (University of Pittsburg, PA, USA), Lichun
Chia(Duquesne University, Pittsburg, PA, USA), Jennifer Padden Elliott (Duquesne
University, Pittsburg, PA, USA), Melissa Ann Kalarchian (Duquesne University,
Pittsburg, PA, USA).
Purpose- The primary purpose of the paper was to support treatment strategies
among children with intellectual and physical incapacities in various places like
health care, residential areas, as well as in educational sites. The authors delivered
actions in improvising treatments among them with the help of telenursing for both
survivor and their families.
Hypothesis- It is hypothesized that communications and involvement with the help
of information technology like video conversations, telephonic information with the
patients and their families will effectively provide support in curing obesity among the
children with developmental disabilities.

Methodology Design
The authors collected data from secondary data sources. In the data section
of providing plans for the intellectually disabled children with obesity, the author
mainly focused upon the quantitative data, which is nonrandomized where
heterogeneous samples and uncontrolled designs were followed. The primary
purpose was to demonstrate a relation between an action and its outcome. The
result found shaded positive effects upon the plans and strategies of the
experiments.
Data Collection Process
The collected data was mainly from secondary data sources from various
papers. The data provided for the planning of actions in the inhabitants and home is
based on a non-randomized sampling process. Another method was described by
the investigators in the randomized hospitals where treatments are provided to
seventy-six children with extraordinary requirements. The third data collection
process described related to the issue is the controlled design method in a
randomized manner where 21 youth suffering from Down syndrome were the
subjects. The technique helped find the actions related to the diet and caregiving.
However, more randomized and controlled studies about the issues would provide
more pieces of evidence about the planning of care.
Satisfying Gaps in the subject
The paper clearly described obesity and the factors causing it. It also gave a
highlight about the risk and severity of the disease along with a few actions of plan. It
also describes the utility of the telenursing system among children with physical

disabilities and suffering from obesity. However, more evidence and information is to
be provided and addressing the issues.
The paper discussed the issues, along with evidence related to obesity
among children with physical disabilities. It also gave a brief summarization of the
previous research giving more attention to maintaining or generating a healthy
environment. It also suggested that telenursing can resolve this issue to some
extent. However, more evidence and information need to be addressed about this
action.
The secondary sources portrayed by the authors in the articles efficiently
represented the issue. The samples were children with obesity who have a physical
disability and intellectual development. The study was also carried among children
who have Down syndrome to give a better plan about the diet and environment.
The article maintained all the ethical facts like respecting all the subjects of all
experiments. The paper also performed with beneficence along with privacy. The
paper also avoided misleading practices.
Data Analyzation
The data was investigated with the help of secondary data sources and
results were concluded by that. It analyzed that the living environment should be
comfortable for children with disabilities. It also explained that healthy routine,
change in food habits, giving the correct amount of nutrition and food for the patients
suffering from other diseases along with this can reduce the issue along with good
mental health.

Limitations
The paper gave a vital outcome and strategy for reducing weight among the
children with disabilities and also gave a promising approach in curing with
telenursing system. However, more researches need to be provided among varieties
of sample to accept the outcome. The challenges are also there in practices with
information technology like maintaining privacy, understanding the protocol
efficiently. The timing of the study is also limited.
Conclusion
The paper described above focused upon the disease of obesity among
children with intellectual disabilities. It developed a framework to improve the
environment, diet, and activities of the patient. It also focused on the utility of the
telenursing in resolving the issues. However, there are many limitations related to
telehealth care like maintaining privacy, following protocols. More researches need
to be followed and planning needs to be done by the nurses to develop and improve
care in this issue.
Plan
The result of the paper gave a good recommendation to practice telenursing.
It involves the use of phones, video communications, and internet support. It will help
deliver care to the person who is unable to approach hospitals. Developmental
disorder children often face anxiety and depression, for that caring through videos
will be active and innovative. Much information can be shared, and tips can be
provided to the patients. Medical reports can easily be accessed and interaction with
the parents and planning of care can be smooth. Many physical exercises can be

recommended to reduce weight loss by supporting exciting videos. The nurses must
communicate with parents in case of emergency for an alteration of nutrition in
different stages of treatment as the children are unable to understand the correct
proportions of food need to be consumed. Multidisciplinary actions must be
developed to prevent the issue. A separate protocol should be planned with children
bearing genetic disorders like Down syndrome, Autism. Planning must be done
based on body weight, height, gender and basal metabolic index. Children of
different ages must be given various sorts of preparation. Family history and daily
activity information must be noted and accordingly, the nurses should improvise the
care routine depending upon the severity of disease and age.
