AI Summary
This nursing research report critically appraises studies examining the correlation between childhood and parental obesity, emphasizing the implications for nursing practice. The analysis highlights that parental obesity significantly increases the risk of adulthood obesity in children, potentially leading to chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. The report underscores the importance of family-centered interventions targeting obese parents to prevent childhood obesity, suggesting nurses should promote healthy habits and obesity management care. Ethical considerations within the studies are also evaluated, noting inconsistencies in ethical review processes. Ultimately, the research advocates for nurses to utilize evidence-based findings to improve patient outcomes and contribute to population-level strategies for combating obesity. Desklib offers a range of resources, including similar solved assignments, to aid nursing students in their studies.

Introduction
A critique is an appraisal of the strength and weakness of a study. The research is concerned
with the gap in the knowledge needed for nursing practice. The primary purpose is to
develop, define the research question, to identify the gap and suggestion on filling those gaps.
Utilizing an understanding of nursing research is important to build a superior nursing
practice. Nursing research studies are done using quantitative research (Benner, Tanner &
Chesla, 2009). Quantitative research is a formal process where numerical are used to obtain
information. Quantitative research is an important step in building an evidence-based
practice. Research helps to promote quality outcome to patients.
Main context
Summary finding
A study was conducted to find the risk of childhood obesity in the later stages of adulthood.
To determine whether there is a probability that obese parents will have a child that will
become obese adults. Data was collected from the study and computed to find the BMI
(Murphy, Goossen & Weber, 2017). It was concluded that parental obesity increases the risk
of adulthood obesity amongst children. Childhood obesity is also linked to chronic diseases
like metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.
Nursing practice
The findings of the study have revealed the fact that obesity in adulthood is related to
childhood obesity. Average BMI was calculated for both men and women. It can be
concluded that parental obesity increases the risk of obesity in adulthood among both obese
and non-obese children. The study reveals critical factors regarding the hypothesis of the
study, making nursing application important in the management of parental obesity. All

measures should be adopted to prevent parental obesity as they are directly related to
adulthood obesity among the children of those obese parents. Childhood obesity is the root
cause of many diseases like cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. Efforts should
be made for the benefit of population-level through family-based strategies. The study further
revealed that most of the obese parents have obese children. This study reveals many key
factors that the nursing field must adopt family-centered interventions for obesity. Such
interventions must target obese parents from having obese children. BMI plays a very
important role in predicting persistent obesity from childhood to adulthood. The study
indicates the link between childhood and adulthood obesity (George, 2011).
The childhood obesity is directly related to a number of diseases developed during adulthood
like coronary heart disease, diabetes and a range of cancers. This study is of great clinical
significance (Yeo, 2010). The nursing practice should be concerned with obesity
management care. People should be made aware of the ill effects of obesity. Proper
counseling should be given to the obese as well as non-obese persons. They should be made
aware of healthy eating habits in order to lead a healthy and disease-free life. The association
of childhood obesity with parental obesity could be found in many countries. As a result of
this childhood obesity, childhood epidemic has become a global issue. The stronger
association has been observed among older children from obese parents. However, the
association between parental and childhood obesity is varied by a number of factors like
weight status and economic status. Thus it is very important and relevant in the nursing field
to establish a correct care pathway for managing obesity in view of childhood-parenthood
association. Nurses must critically access research reports to determine the appropriate
application. The research reports help nurse’s to take a decision regarding patients and their
clinical problems. By reading research articles nurse will become more proficient with the
format and technology. The nurses should work on one research report every week. The

nurses should be comfortable in working with research results to improve nursing care. By
critically analyzing the research report the knowledge of nurse's increases and the nursing
care enhances (Gibbons & Shafer, 2016).
Ethical consideration
An ethical decision is a process of evaluating and choosing among alternatives in a manner
that is consistent with ethical principles. In ethical decisions, it is important to discard all
unethical options and select the best ethical alternatives (Holland, 2010). The process of
ethical decision requires commitment, competency, and consciousness. Ethical decisions
sustain trust, respect, fairness, and responsibility. The ethics are fundamental to nursing. The
nurses should respect their patients and their dignity. Nurse’s must create an environment of
trust and respect between health care professionals and patients. Ethics are fundamental to the
integrity of the nursing profession. The six ethical principles of nursing are fidelity,
beneficence, autonomy, justice, integrity, and nonmaleficence. The needs of the patients
should be given utmost care and affection. The nurse’s should not be negligent in performing
their duties. The family of the patients should be informed regularly regarding the condition
of the patients. It is compulsory for the nurse’s to follow the code of conduct as they are the
very spine of the health care system. In the first study that shows that there is a direct link
between childhood and adulthood obesity states that there was no mention of the ethical
process and review undertaken during the study. In the second study that shows that obesity
is directly related to developing chronic diseases states that ethical approval was sought from
the multicentre research ethics committee for Wales, Scotland (Levin & Feldman, 2013). The
third and fourth study that shows that childhood obesity is related to parental obesity states
that no ethical process and review was undertaken during the study.

Conclusion
The above study shows how childhood obesity is related to parental obesity and how
important it is to manage parental obesity. Obesity is the cause of many diseases that can be
overcome by targeting obese parents and their children. They can be educated about healthy
habits. Obesity management care should be given importance.
