Introduction
The case study discusses here of the Collins ATM banking system. This report discusses the inception
phase in the SDLC. This includes how the project will be initiated where we draw out the
requirements of the system; document the vision of the system, how the environment is set up and
how much time will be required. The report will include the system vision document, requirements,
stakeholder map and feasibility report ("Concept: Inception Phase", 2018).
System Vision Document
Problem Description
The problem description is the first phase of the vision document (Pereira, Sonfack,
Vallipuram&Karanxha, 2013).
The Collins Banking ATM system has been proposed for facilitating the sole purpose of banking. The
current proposed system should be having a slot for insertion of the card, the display where all the
options will be displayed, a keypad consisting all the numeric and command keys, cash dispenser, a
printer which could print receipt of the latest transaction and the chute which will allow the deposit of
cash and the cheque.
According to the current scenario, the whole system is based on typing of the input. The users have to
use the keypad to enter the values into the system. There are many customers who find the entering of
the values very uneasy. In the age of smart phones where everything operates with a touch, entering
values by dialing into the keypad may cause inconvenience for the customers.
As the use of the ATM banking system is increasing with more and more customers getting clinged to
the banks and banking system, the withdrawals from the system are increasing. But there are times
when the ATM runs out of cash and needs a refill. But in case of the delay in the refilling of cash, the
customers face a lot of inconveniences.
According to the case study, the currently proposed system only talks of withdrawal of cash by
entering the value. It does not talk about the denominations in which the amount could be withdrawn.
The ATM system is not designed with the facility which would allow the customers to choose the
type of denomination in which they would want the cash. This would provide customer satisfaction
and increase the accessibility to the ATM.
It may be possible that the customers forget their PIN which allows them to give access to the
account. This would cause inconvenience to the customers. There should be an alternate method for
the authentication of the customers.

System Capabilities

capabilities. The current system should be developed so that all the problems addressed in the

2018). The system capabilities that can be identified after the application of the modification in the
current system are as follows:
1. The ATM banking machine or system should be efficient in the identification of the card. In
case of any casual or wrong insertion of the card, a message should be displayed regarding the
re-insertion of the card.
2. The authentication of the customers can be done by either of the following ways:
i. The customers can enter the PIN associated with the card in order to perform any
further operation.
ii. The biometric authentication can be integrated so that the biometrics of the customer
can be used in case he forgets his PIN. This can be a secure method for authentication
as the biometrics of each person is different.
3. The ATM banking system should integrate touch display. All the numbers and options should
be displayed on the screen itself. This would allow better interaction of the users.
4. The proposed ATM banking system should be programmed in a way so that it asks the
customer the type of denomination he wants the money to be withdrawn.
5. The ATM banking system should be always filled with cash in order to increase the user
accessibility.
6. The ATM banking system should be proposed in a way so that it is cost-effective. In place of
the printer, the system should be designed in a manner to give the display the details of the
transaction on the screen itself.
Business Effectiveness
Any project that is started or proposed should focus on the business effectiveness and how the system
can reduce the initial costs, maintenance costs, designing and development costs and increase the
revenue(Sundqvist, Backlund&Chronéer, 2014).
The ATM banking system that is proposed and also the modifications that can be implemented should
identify and assimilate the following benefits:

Broad Feasibility of the Project
The ATM banking system project should undergo feasibility test. There are four broader categories
under which the feasibility test can be carried out (Mukund, 2017):
1. Technical Feasibility
The following technical requirements of the system should be analyzed:
Designing the requirements: All the functional and nonfunctional requirements
should be analyzed.
Engineering the designs: The designs should be technically designed and analyzed
upon. A study should be carried out as to what functionalities can be technically
implemented.
Software study: The programs and the software required for the proposed system
should be analyzed.
