1OBSERVATION OF VERBAL AND NON VERBAL BEHAVIOUR
Introduction:
We share our beliefs and our ideas by communicating with each other. From the
ancient period of time, the process of communication has changed a lot, or else can be said
evolved through time. At that time period men and women used to speak non – verbally, then
with the passing time human race got hold of the verbal communication. Nowadays, we use
both verbal and nonverbal communicative methods to speak and share our thought processes.
Here, the study will be analysing the processes of verbal and non-verbal communicative
approaches between men and women and the social engagement the processes are effecting
between the genders.
Discussion:
The way of communication has been changed a lot in course of time. It is also
observed that the way men and women communicate between each other has not changed
much. In the time of globalizing world, the beginning of the diverse workplaces have
experiences in the communicative approaches between men and women (Patterson, 2018).
This study will put forward the differences between the verbal and nonverbal communicative
ways between men and women in terms of interaction, workplace and gendered
communication and culture aspects.
Dimensions of Culture, Communication and Gender –The verbal and nonverbal
communication is deeply enrooted with the cultural and gendered perspectives. The issues
related with the aspect is connected with the different upbringing of genders in every
different cultural ways. However, the treatment of different genders from their earlier days
are resulted mainly in forming the shape of communication (Samovar et al., 2015). Some of
the general differences between verbal communication of men and women are like men in
general speak louder and in a deeper pitched voice than women, whereas women speak more

quickly and less directly about the discussion than men. There are some basic differences that
distinguish cultural and gendered dimensions between men and women.
Gendered Verbal and Non Verbal Communication in Public Setting –Masculine and
feminine communication styles in a nonverbal communicative approach reflects effective
cultural values. Therefore, in many aspectsnonverbal communication effects in
misinterpretation of the approaches, researchers found out that the relationship between
gender and communication is very much confusing in many cases. Researches have shown
that men perceive a woman less confident in some point of views related to making a
statement, whereas women in general find men as insensitive, domineering by making less
response to their talks and keep themselves busy promoting their own agendas. (Bonaccio et
al., 2016). In case of the non-verbal expressions, the facial expressions will say it all in the
public settings. Women generally rely on the facial expressions much more than men. Men
also do not smile as much as women. They tend to keep calm and quiet. Two biggest
weapons for women in case of nonverbal expressions are the nodding of the head and eye
contact. The public setting can be in a shopping mall. Here women would always want to go
for shopping in different outlets through eye expression and other facial expressions. Men
will use head nodding or use their eye to show if they are interested to go or not.
Comparison and Contrast between Communications –As in the thinking styles,
processing of ideas and talking in different ways suggests the idea that men and women are
from different planets. Though it is just a funny observation, but in some aspects that is true
to the point. The male voice is judged as a dynamic, aggressive and stronger voice than
female voice, whereas the female voice are considered as more aesthetic than the male
counterparts (Patterson, 2018). However, it is suggested that the communication between
genders are more mixed than having differences, though some of the typical differences are
identified but the communicative approaches are more or less same in some aspects.

3OBSERVATION OF VERBAL AND NON VERBAL BEHAVIOUR
Patterns of Non Verbal Behavior between Men and Women–Researches have shown
some patterns of behavioural approaches in between men and women in terms of Verbal and
Non Verbal Communicational values. Nonverbal Communication is related to the genders in
terms of communicative ways other than using words. There are some specific differences
between genders like men are considered to claim more territorial behaviour than women.
Whereas, women smile and make eye contacts more than men while talking in general
(Hall&Xing, 2015). Men are inherited with less facial expressions while talking and have
ahabit of revealing less emotions than women in general. In comparing some behavioural
approaches, most men are being found to have sit with legs wide apart and holding their arms
away from their bodies whereas women are likely to take less space and sit with crossed arms
according to general point of views.
Did Men and Women tend to follow traditional expectations for nonverbal
communication?
It is observed that communicative approaches can be of two types like verbal and
nonverbal in terms. In some points, nonverbal communication is more effective, meaningful
and immediate than the verbal part. The differences between genders also have some
different effects on the interpretation and signalling of the nonverbal communication when it
is dealing with dealing with opposite gender (Liu, 2016). Therefore, the traditional nonverbal
communication have different effects and expectations in terms of different gender.
Did Men and Women tend to follow traditional expectations for verbal communication?
There are some traditional expectations that affect the gender difference in terms of
verbal communication in between men and women are like the tentativeness, interruptions,
directness, polite nature, quantity and talking time. In every aspect of the communication
approaches, the expectations relate to the skills, gestures and mannerisms, facial expressions

and proximity of a gendered communication. Men possess more directness in their
conversation rather than women (Alvarez & Villarruel, 2015). In terms of quantity and
talking time women are more stereotyped in this case as being talkative in nature, but the real
truth is men possess more talking time and quantity than women as to their relation with
business perspectives. The traditional expectations of the nonverbal communications can be
violated by both men and women. Men can be dominant and they can say it on their face if
they do not agree with something suggested by the woman. This direct approach might not be
a nonverbal communication. Rather it might be a verbal expression and then it can have large
scale implications. The women might feel offended and they can think they have been
humiliated. In return, they might say some harsh words on the men as well.
Did you notice any other patterns in your observations?
In course of researching the paper, it is found that women are much better at
nonverbal communication than men. The study also found out that in terms of reading and
observing the nonverbal messages and unintentional signals they perceive and understand
better than men in most cases.
Did anyone violate a nonverbal expectation?
By conducting a research and reviewing the construction of violating a nonverbal
communication, three mainnonverbal communicative methods hasfigured out such as touch,
posture and conversational distance maintaining. The most possible moderation effects is
violating the nonverbal communication depends on the factors like communicator’s
attractiveness, status and gender. The appropriateness and desirability regarding the observed
behaviour affects the expectancies and evaluates the violation of the nonverbal expectations.

5OBSERVATION OF VERBAL AND NON VERBAL BEHAVIOUR
This research paper is a brief discussion about the communicative difference in
between men and women in terms of cultural, gender and behavioural approaches. The way
men talk in general are much different than women in most general aspects. Women are
found to have more smiles while talking whereas men do more gestures while making
someone understand something. The study well justifies by explaining the patterns of
communication and traditional experiences between communicative approaches between men
and women.
